| IMPACT MAGAZINE | |
Have you received your copy of IMPACT, the Y's new magazine? You probably received one in the mail recently and we hope you will hang onto it because, in the middle of the magazine, you'll find a pull-out Program Catalog that lists the descriptions and locations of all spring and summer Y programs. Use the Program Catalog together with the Program Schedules that you'll find online on our branch website or, simply click on this link. The Program Schedules list all the program specifics like: dates, times, ages, locations, and registration.
Do you have a wonderful Y story about how the Y has had an impact in your life? Do you want your story to be featured in IMPACT? Email letters@peninsulaymca.org, include your name, contact information and tell us your story. IMPACT will be published three times a year.

| FESTIVAL OF THE TREES | | It may seem a bit early to have visions of sugar plums dancing in your head, but our committee chair, Sarah Pittman, is eager to start planning and has vowed to make this year's Festival the best one yet. Sarah is looking for a few good elves - worker elves, creative elves, elves who know elves - to help with this endeavor. If you would like to know what volunteering for this annual community extravaganza involves, please contact Donna McGrath at donna.mcgrath@peninsulaymca.org or 435-0223. We are open to suggestions for improvement as well as any new ideas. Your opinion DOES matter to all of us at OUR YMCA. |
| KEKOKA YOGA RETREAT | |
Immerse yourself in yoga and nature at the second annual Kekoka Yoga Retreat Friday-Sunday, May 20-22 on the beautiful waterfront shores of YMCA Camp Kekoka in Kilmarnock. The cost of the weekend is $100 and includes lodging, four healthy meals, a variety of all-levels yoga, meditation, pranayama, yoga anatomy, "Hoop Yoga," a panel discussion, campfires, massages (additional costs apply) and water activities. Space is limited to 40 and all proceeds benefit scholarships for campers.
Presenters include MJ Anderson, Suzanne Best, Carol Burke, Carey Gaenzle, Jen Hollowell, Susan Johnson, David Scarbrough, Amy Wright-Maloney and Joanna Yates. Massages will be given by appointment by Glynda Antonio.
Camp Kekoka is a residence camp for children aged 8 to 15. It is situated on 97 acres of beautiful waterfront at the end of Boys Camp Road in Kilmarnock. The campers learn to sail, wind surf, kayak, water ski, and much more, all in a safe environment based on the YMCA character values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.

| UNCORKED | |
The Northern Neck Family YMCA mission of building strong communities was once again embraced by guests at "unCorked!", our 2011 signature fundraising event benefitting the Guardian program.
The winemaker's dinner, which took place on March 26 at the Tides Inn, exceeded expectations with superb cuisine, excellent wine, outstanding service, amazing showmanship, and exquisite floral arrangements by Johanna Carrington of Fresh Flowers.
The Friday night preview at Specials was an additional treat for guests and VIP's, who enjoyed an exclusive Barboursville wine tasting paired with the amazing hors d'oeuvres provided by Amy Groh. (If you haven't tried the feta cheese or chocolate truffle shavings, you need to head over to Specials Wine Seller and check them out!)
But above all, the Y's charitable mission was affirmed by the sponsors, guests, volunteers and other supporters who not only bought tickets or volunteered at the fundraiser, but who gave generously in order to assure that no one is ever turned away from the Y for inability to pay.
For information about the Y's charitable mission and outreach programs, please visit our website. |
