FESTIVAL OF THE TREES
FOT

Join us Friday through Sunday December 3, 4, & 5 and walk into a winter wonderland of trees and other holiday decorations, all donated by the community and on display for silent auction.

This event (our 13th annual!) begins Friday evening with our Lighting of the Trees party, continues all weekend long with activities for everyone in your family and is one of the largest fundraisers to benefit our Guardian Program.

If you would like to donate a decoration, sponsor the event, volunteer, or for more information, please contact Donna McGrath at 435.0223 or dmcgrath@peninsulaymca.org.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

In the past two newsletters you've learned about two of our three areas of focus: Youth Development and Healthy Living. This month we'd like to tell you about the third area of focus, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

The Y has been listening and responding to our communities' most critical social needs for 160 years. Simply put, we think it is important to give back and to support our neighbors. You've probably heard about our Bright Beginnings program that gives at-risk children greater self-esteem and confidence by providing school clothes, shoes, coats and supplies. Bright Beginnings is our most visible response to social need, but every Y program addresses societal issues in some way. For instance, sports programs teach children to cooperate, to work in a team, to be aware of how their actions affect others, and help to fight the largest growing national epidemic for children, obesity.

Through the Y, volunteers, donors, leaders, and partners empower people to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.

YOUTH SUPER SPORTS BASKETBALL

man boy ballRegistration is underway now for Youth Super Sports Basketball.  The cost is $55 for members and $70 for others.  Each participant receives their own basketball as a gift.  For those participants registered prior to December 12, we will also include a free basketball clinic on the afternoon of December 18.  Those participants will also receive a $10.00 coupon to go toward any future Youth Super Sport in 2011, such as Soccer, T-Ball, Indoor Soccer and Football.

Youth are grouped by ages 4-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12-15. The season runs January 6 through February 27.  Games will be held on Saturdays in the gymnasium at the YMCA.

Youth Super Sports trained coaches introduce the basic skills and
rules of basketball. Some of the fundamentals included are dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, and ball handling. Good sportsmanship and character development are emphasized.
