FOR HEALTHY LIVING

turkey boyLast month we introduced you to the first of our our three areas of focus: For Youth Development. This month we'd like to share about our second area of focus: For Healthy Living.

Behind "For Healthy Living" is the fact that across the nation and right here in Virginia, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families receive the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.

FESTIVAL OF THE TREES
FOTJoin us Friday through Sunday December 3, 4, & 5 and walk into a winter wonderland of trees and other holiday decorations, all donated by the community and on display for silent auction.

This event (our 13th annual!) begins Friday evening with our Lighting of the Trees party, continues all weekend long with activities for everyone in your family and is one of the largest fundraisers to benefit our Guardian Program.

If you would like to donate a decoration, sponsor the event, volunteer, or for more information, please contact Donna McGrath at 435.0223 or dmcgrath@peninsulaymca.org.

TEXAS BARBEQUE

BBQThe Texas Barbeque, a fundraising event hosted by Friends of the Northern Neck Family YMCA, was the place to be on October 24 for hungry cowboys and cowgirls.  Pictured to the right are John and Wilma Tripodi.

The Young Country Band played live music while guests enjoyed authentic Texas beef brisket & barbeque chicken prepared by Willaby's Catering.  Noblett, Ware & Peoples donated the adult beverages.  Delicious homemade sides and desserts were made by committee members (and their spouses), Eska Beckstoffer, Amy Groh, Laura Hudson, Susan & Bob Wayland, Wilma & John Tripodi and Susan & John Browne.

The event featured a mini live-auction as well as a silent auction with themed gift baskets donated by local businesses and individuals.  Vicki Kinsel was the lucky winner of a Stetson hat during the "half-card draw."

Over $10,000 was raised for the Guardian program, exceeding our goal and allowing us to continue serving the children, families and individuals in our community who would otherwise be unable to participate in the vital programs and services we provide.
