Happy New Year!
A new year and a new season all bring new opportunities. For many of the families and individuals living in the Northern Neck, 2009 was difficult. Many friends and families experienced rough financial times, and several went through tough and extensive physical challenges. Now, it is a new year, and we are full of hopes for recovery and growth; locally, nationally, and globally. At the YMCA, it is our hope in 2010, that you would find opportunities to establish healthy routines, build friendships, and have fun with others. We are proud to be building lives in 2010. Come join us in that effort.
January is a great time to join the YMCA! Forward this e-mail to your friends and encourage them to drop-by the YMCA today!
The YMCA is here to help you and your family thrive, improve your well-being, connect with others and access support. We're here to help your children increase positive values, their commitment to service and their motivation to learn.

YMCA Members Marilou & Bob Fox Win Vacation Drawing!

Marilou and Bob Fox were the lucky winners in the Northern Neck Family YMCA's Vacation drawing. The drawing took place Dec 6 at the Festival of the Trees and the lucky winners now have the difficult task of choosing one of the three fabulous vacations: 4 nights in Hawaii, an Alaskan or Caribbean Cruise or a family trip to Orlando.
Proceeds from the raffle benefit the Guardian Program, which provides financial assistance to children and families in our community, making it possible for them to participate in YMCA membership and programs such as Child Care, Preschool, After-School, Summer Camp, Bright Beginnings and Youth Sports.
The Foxes retired to Weems in 2000 and have been active members of the Y ever since. They both work out regularly and Bob swam for three years on the Master's Swim Team. They were Y members in Charlotte for 20 years where Bob served on the Board of Management. Bob is also treasurer of Friends of Belle Isle State Park as well as Treasurer and Chairman of the Carter LaPrade Memorial Trail Corporation, a local organization working on building a bicycle/pedestrian trail from Kilmarnock to Irvington.
For more information on how you can help support the Guardian Program, please contact Susan Johnson at sjohnson@peninsulaymca.org. |

We would like to send out a HUGE thank you to our INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY for once again supporting the Northern Neck Family YMCA's Festival of the Trees (our 12th annual!). This event continues to gather our community in the most inclusive event in the county. The entire community pitches in: from the volunteer-led Festival committee, to the local businesses and organizations who create the beautiful silent auction entries, to the area restaurants who donate the best of their food offerings, to the people who volunteer at or attend the weekend-long events. Thank you for helping us to raise over $20,000 for the Guardian Program! Thank you for being someone's Guardian Angel.
For more information on how you can get involved in next year's Festival, please contact Donna McGrath at 435.0223 or dmcgrath@peninsulaymca.org. |
