Polar Bear Plunge
Looking for a way to start off the New Year with a SPLASH? Come join us on New Year's Day for the Northern Neck Y's 4th Annual POLAR BEAR PLUNGE at Camp Kekoka! This unlikely event has brave participants of all ages plunging into the frigid waters of Indian Creek to raise money for the Guardian Program, a scholarship fund which allows us to make our programs and services available to all community members, regardless of their ability to pay. What better way to start off the New Year than by getting a little cold and wet (okay, maybe a LOT cold and wet!) with a bunch of other crazy people while helping others at the same time? Plungers and their sponsors are invited to warm up afterward with hot soup, hot chocolate, and other assorted goodies. To join the plungers, sponsor a plunger, or for more information, please ask the front desk, or call Susan Johnson at 436.2204.

Coffeehouse Great Success!
An amazing group of local musicians performed to a sold-out audience at the YMCA's Coffee House on Friday, November 13. This seasonal event takes place at the Lancaster Players in White Stone with performers who donate their time and talent to raise money for the Guardian Program.
The lineup included "The Northern Neck Chantey Singers" (pictured above), Skip Ackerly, Jim Wright and Linda Soukup, Colleen Burke, Roger Himler and "Mary and the Janes." Open mic performers were Don Kenefick and Dave Hershiser, who has performed at previous Coffee Houses. The event was organized by volunteers Dave Bresett and Colleen Burke. Dave also served as MC that evening. NetCruisers once again generously donated the coffee and Walmart donated bar mixers and snacks. For more information on the next Coffee House, including performance, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, please contact Susan Johnson at sjohnson@peninsulaymca.org. |
