Striper Swimmers Compete in Florida
 Stripers
Nine swimmers from our masters team participated in the YMCA National Championship Swim Meet held in Ft. Lauderdale April 16-19. The event hosted 651 competitors ages 18 to 85, and saw 282 existing records broken.

The Striper team finished in 16th place, of 48 combined teams with 210 points, and collected a total of 52 medals, including 3 second places, 7 third places and 13 fourth places, as well as achieving 24 personal record times. Medals and points are awarded for places 1-8. In an event where there were very large teams such as winning Sarasota (177 swimmers), a high number of competitors, fast and record times, our group represented themselves extremely well.

BroderickKathy Broderick, YMCA board member and secretary, also one of the original and continuing team members, states, "How fortunate this community is to have the "Y" - and especially to have a Kathryn Gregory coached masters swim team.  Why not join us in the fall?"

New masters team registrations will be accepted in September for the 2009-2010 season. Participants must be able to swim any stroke for 50 yards without rest, and have the fitness to continue swimming with rest. For more information see the team's website

Common Sense Pain Management

  • Do you suffer from chronic pain of the neck and shoulders, hips, knees, feet, low back, or headaches?
  • Does it keep you from working, playing sports, or doing the things you love?
  • Are you still in pain in spite of medication, surgery, chiropractic, or other forms of treatment?
  • Are you searching for ways to stay flexible and strong as you age?
The Wyne Method {of Common-Sense Pain Management}, created by massage therapist and former personal trainer Troy Wyne, is designed to help you learn the underlying root cause of pain and simple, life-changing techniques to increase your strength and energy levels, restore your flexibility and decrease your pain. Pain and injury are not inevitable, nor are they just what happens when you age. They're preventable when you know the basics of good posture, and how to use your body correctly. Participants of all ages report increased energy levels, increased range of motion, deeper, more restful sleep, and increased athletic performance.

The next seminar is scheduled for Saturday, June 27 from 9 am to 12 pm.  Cost is $35 for members, $45 for program participants. Register in person at the YMCA or online by visiting our website
