YMCA Welcomes New Instructor! The Northern Neck Family YMCA is excited to introduce their newest staff member Melinda Burnette. Melinda moved to the Northern Neck from Richmond Virginia in January of 2009. Melinda is nationally certified in Group Exercise and Personal Training. She previously worked at the Chester and Manchester YMCAs in Richmond. Melinda has 3 grown children and 3 beautiful grandchildren. Her hobbies and interests include hiking, biking, swimming, reading, landscaping, and of course exercising! Melinda states her greatest accomplishment is 10 days of hiking and camping the Andes Mountains of Peru along the Lost Inca Trail. Melinda is not only passionate about healthy living but also animal rescue and rehabilitation.
Melinda starts her new group exercise classes in March: "AbsoGlutely" (a combination workout for your Abs and Glutes) Tuesdays at 4:15, "Pilates on the Ball" Thursdays at 4:15, and "Circuit Interval" Thursdays at 5:30. All of these classes are free to YMCA members.
Melinda is also offering personal training sessions, by appointment only, call or stop by the Welcome Center for more information. |
Swimming Lessons
 Registration for our next round of Swimming Lessons has begun! Taught by Robin Blake, classes begin March 16 and run through April 8. Each 30 minute lesson takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:00, 5:30, and 6:00. Cost is $20 for members, $50 for program participants. Time of class is based on skill level. Tai Chi begins March 24!
 Tom Martin begins Tai Chi classes on March 24. Classes are on Tuesday evenings from 6:45-7:45pm. Pre-registration is not necessary. The class is free to all YMCA members.
Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. To do Tai Chi, you perform a series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner. Anyone, regardless of age or physical ability, can practice Tai Chi. Tai Chi is used to reduce stress and increase flexibility, muscle strength and definition, energy, stamina, agility, and feelings of well-being. |
Racquetball Tournament
An Adult Coed Racquetball Tournament is scheduled for Saturday March 7. Tournament begins at 9am. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for program participants. Register in person at the YMCA or online by visiting our website.

Kid's Night Out

Parents enjoy an evening out while kids, ages 5-12, enjoy an exciting night at the YMCA! Children take part in activities including theme-oriented games and crafts, movies, and swimming. Dinner is included. Drop off is at 6:00pm, pick up at 9:00pm. Kid's Night Out is held every month at the YMCA Wiley Child Development Center, 458 Harris Rd.
