INCOME

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA had another successful year!  Over 120 volunteers offered free tax assistance to low income individuals and families in northern Arizona. Taxpayers had the ability to purchase Savings Bonds with refunds and open checking & savings accounts. VITA Volunteers were trained to assist taxpayers who faced a home foreclosure in 2009 as well as assist new home buyers in receiving the "New Home Buyers Credit." Final VITA results will be announced in late May.

United Way of Northern Arizona along with our VITA partners would like to thank all of the VITA volunteers for their hard work and accomplishments throughout this year's tax season.

UWNA BOARD SUPPORTS PROP 100
United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA) supports Proposition 100 in an effort to protect our state's most vulnerable populations.
UWNA serves the human care needs of individuals and families across northern Arizona. Deeper cuts to critical programs protecting Arizonans would result in a failure to provide services to residents with the highest needs, including victims of domestic violence, individuals and families experiencing homelessness, the disabled and mentally ill, and children and youth with characteristics that put them at risk.

BRING BACK 2-1-1
2-1-1 connects people to vital social services provided by a range of nonprofit and government agencies. This easy-to-remember number saves time and frustration by eliminating the need for callers to navigate a maze of agencies and help-lines.

Currently, Arizona is one of only four states without 2-1-1 coverage.

In March, UWNA Board Members Shelly Hall and Coconino County Board of Supervisor, Liz Archuleta along with UWNA's President & CEO, Kerry Blume met Representative Ann Kirkpatrick, Senator Jon Kyl and Senator John McCain at a United Way Worldwide Community Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. to encourage support for 2-1-1.
