Northeast Chapter Recognition Luncheon

SRP PHoto
On Thursday, April 30, APS Cholla Power Plant and Cellular One sponsored United Way of Northern Arizona's Northeast Chapter Recognition Luncheon at Pinetop Country Club. Approximately 80 guests celebrated a successful 2008-2009 campaign, chaired by Roxanne Gomez. The program recognized volunteers and businesses including APS Cholla Power Plant, SRP Coronado Generating Station and Zachry Construction as the top three business supporters, Navopache Electric Co-op, accepted the New Business Award and Northland Pioneer College received the Building Block Award for helping to build a stronger community by tripling their campaign.  Jackie Baker and Cyndee Larson were announced as the 2009-2010 Summit Society Co-chairs. Guests participated in a centerpiece competition made from non-perishable food items. SRP Coronado Generating Station, with their go green theme, won the centerpiece challenge. All food collected during the event was donated to Salvation Army White Mountain Outpost.

Chapter Information

United Way of Northern Arizona consists of three chapters: Flagstaff Chapter, Page Chapter, and the Northeast Chapter (off-reservation Navajo and Apache Counties). Each of the three chapters run their own annual campaigns, maintain regional volunteers, and hold their own events. In this way, local input and activity is ensured. The chapters interact with and assist one another continually. In order to leverage resources and provide consistency, all use the same campaign supplies and promotional materials.

Meet United Way of Northern Arizona's Board Treasurer

United Way GroupScott Kemp, a graduate of Northern Arizona and Arizona State University, has spent his career in financial planning. He is currently employed with W.L. Gore & Associates and is the United Way of Northern Arizona Board Treasurer. Scott became involved in United Way because of the services that his family used while he lived in Phoenix.  When he moved to Flagstaff in 1988, Scott immediately became  involved in United Way of Northern Arizona. He has been on the Board for three years.

"When I moved to Flagstaff, I could see the positive benefits UWNA's leadership and partner agencies provide the community. More can be accomplished as group than alone. An example of being united is the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. VITA is a collaboration between UWNA, City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, FUSD, Arizona Community Foundation, VISTA and Wells Fargo. "

As UWNA Board Treasurer, Scott has been instrumental in overseeing the organizations fiduciary responsibility, transparency and accountability. Scott is also a VITA Volunteer, Literacy Volunteers Coconino County Board Member and tutor and a board member of Flagstaff Leadership Program.

United Way of Northern Arizona's Board of Directors is comprised of community members responsible for governing United Way of Northern Arizona.
