Do You Have Old Cell Phones?

We are still collecting old (working or broken!) cell phones, laptops, and other unwanted technology for our Technology Drive fundraiser. Dig out those old phones at the bottom of your junk drawer and turn them into us! We have boxes in various schools, on the hospital campus, and around the community. Don't know where to drop it off? Get in touch with us!

Congratulations and Good Luck, Jolene and Kristi!
Kristi and Jolene

Over the past year, Jolene Manthey (Kent State) and Kristi Moore (Gallaudet University) completed their 4th year practicums in the MDHC clinic in order to graduate with their Doctorate of Audiology degrees. They spent hours observing, learning, practicing, and implementing skills and techniques alongside their mentors, the MDHC Audiologists. Each had the opportunity to spend time in various specialties of audiology, including pediatrics, cochlear implant mappings, and the vestibular clinic.

We've enjoyed their energy and enthusiasm over the past 12 months and look forward to watching them start their careers as Audiologists.

Good luck and THANK YOU for everything you've contributed to the team!

"Marion's Way" Preschool Off to a Great Start!

Marion's Way Preschool is in full swing!  The students have completed two weeks out of six already and are in the midst of the "Going to the Beach" unit, with fun activities including learning to hula hoop, taking part in an obstacle course and using scooters to pretend to swim the ocean! These activities help develop each child's fine motor and language skills.

If you'd like additional information, please contact the Marion Downs Hearing Center at mdhc@uch.edu.

The "Marion's Way" Preschool program is designed to foster each child's listening and spoken language skills in order to support social, emotional, and pre-academic development. This six-week program is offered annually during the summer.

One Month Until Campus Connections!

Thirteen (13) high school students from around the country (California, Iowa, Michigan, and Colorado!) have registered to attend our two-day summer camp July 22-23. These teenagers have committed themselves to learning as much as they can about transitioning from high school to college. We are excited about our extraordinary line-up of speakers, including our keynote speaker, Colorado's 2009 Teacher of Year, Susan Elliott!

We are grateful for the support and effort of several individuals who have invested their time and energy to design an effective camp, especially:
  • Ashley Koe, Dove
  • Stephanie Olson, The Children's Hospital
  • Molly Dalpes, Audiology Graduate student
  • Paula Thompson, ASL Interpreter
  • Cheryl Johnson, MDHC Professional Advisory Board Member
  • Hatten Howard, Audiology Graduate student
  • MDHC Staff members
If you'd like to volunteer your time or donate to this camp, please contact Rebecca Novinger at rebecca.novinger@uch.edu.

Sincerely,

MDHC Staff
