MDHC Spotlight
Holiday1
With her mom being a Special Education teacher, Darcy Strong grew up around those with special needs. It seemed natural to her to seek a career in this arena. After graduating from University of Colorado with an AuD, Darcy joined the Marion Downs Hearing Center staff as an audiologist in 2005. She hopes to complete her PhD in December 2010 with a research focus on vestibular and balance disorders.

"Becoming an audiologist was 100% the right decision for me. I love making a difference in people's lives - its awesome," she shares. Darcy enjoys the diverse and challenging patient population at University of Colorado Hospital. Working with a variety of clinicians provides the opportunity for the team to bounce ideas off of each other and grow professionally. While time and space are always an issue in the clinic, Darcy embraces the busy schedule and wouldn't trade it for a quieter office. Her expertise in cochlear implant sound mappings and vestibular/balance disorders make her a unique member of the MDHC team.

When she isn't in the clinic, Darcy spends her time with her two children and husband of eighteen years, whom she proudly declares, "...I'm still very much in love with him. I'm very lucky!" They're avid Pittsburg Steelers fans and spend their summers camping and jet skiing on Lake McConaughy in Nebraska.

MDHC Staff Member Celebrates 35 Years with UCH!
Holiday1When Patsy Meredith became employed by the University of Colorado Hospital in August 1974, she was hired to be the medical secretary of the Audiology clinic, a department of two providers: Marion Downs herself and Jerry Northern, now an MDHC Foundation Board Member. This was her first job out of college. Fast forward to January 2010, Patsy has witnessed the clinic expand to eleven clinical providers, move to a new home on the Anschutz Medical Campus, and become recognized worldwide for its unique leadership and innovations in the realm of hearing and deafness. Patsy's responsibilities have evolved over the year to include overseeing various clinical programs, including her favorite - the hearing aid program. She's a cornerstone in the clinic, keeping things running smoothly and taking care of all the providers, patients, and visitors. According to Sandy Gabbard, PhD, the Director of Audiology at the MDHC Clinic, "Patsy is the bridge between the consumers we serve and the providers. She always keeps her eyes and ears open and is our #1 advocate for excellent consumer service."

Congratulations on your 35 years of service, Patsy!
Sincerely,
MDHC Staff
