Greetings!

Summer is here in Berkeley - the class of 2009 graduated over the weekend in a lovely commencement ceremony. Congratulations to all the hard-working students, faculty, and staff!

Dean Rich Lyons and a delegation will be in Asia in June, which is exciting for all involved. They will be in Beijing and Shanghai between June 10 and 14, where they will meet with Haas and Cal alumni and supporters.

In Asia Business Center (ABC) news, we've signed two program agreements - one with the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) and the other with the Korea University Business School (KUBS). These agreements will allow students from those respective schools to come to the Haas School of Business to study for a week, and will also allow Haas professors to teach in Korea and Shanghai.

The latest technological development is our new Asia Business Center calendar that will post all Asia-related events on campus. Please see below for more information.

Sincerely,

Teck Ho
Director, Asia Business Center

Register for the Family-Run Businesses Course: August 2009

The Asia Business Center has joined forces with the Center for Executive Education (CEE) to provide a cutting-edge course entitled "Family-Run Businesses: Succession Planning & Conflict Resolution to Grow the Enterprise." "There are only a few programs in the whole United States that address the complexities of family business," explains Prof. Teck Ho. "And yet, family business is the cornerstone of the Asian economy," he affirms.

To fill this need, Professor Ho joined forces with Professor Paul Tiffany to build a curriculum that covers the financial, legal and interpersonal aspects of family business, like family governance and legacy, as well as the implications of inheritance stipulations.

The week-long course will take place at the Haas School of Business from August 31- September 4, 2009. The course is open to business leaders involved in any aspect of family business.

To register, please visit the program's website, or contact Susan Quinn,
Business Development Consultant, +1.510.642.9167, email Susan.
