MDemonstration : 3 in 1 and Done
When faced with the dilemma of manufacturing a part with more than one set of gears, conventional manufacturing methods are no longer effective. Traditional gear hobbing machines could not change hobs, therefore each gear feature on the final part required a different operation or at the least a different hob set-up. Given this restriction, if you were trying to produce a part with three gears, you would either have to change the hob and set-up after each gear was cut, or you would have to produce your part in batches, defined by operation. Imagine if you could produce a gear hobbing tool that can be installed to the turret of a live tool enabled lathe. Invoke the tool change capability of the turret and this method would enable more than one gear hobbing tool to be used and more than one gear to be cut on a single part. Technology such as this, will allow today's manufacturers to continue to move toward lights out manufacturing. MD Tooling, will have on display in our booth F-2586, a live demonstration that utilizes three gear hobbers on one lathe to take one piece of bar stock to finished part on one machine with a cycle time of just 8 minutes. With many different styles of hobs available, the part being produced during this demonstration will feature splines down the shaft, a bevel gear, cut by the top hobber and a spur gear, cut by the middle hobber. Our gear hobbing tool removes the need for stand alone, dedicated gear hobbing machines to produce just one feature. The benefits of such a consolidation are numerous, from reduced set-ups, time savings, floors space, number of machines, operator training, part transfers, the list goes on. Make plans to stop by Booth F-2586 during the show and see how your process can benefit from such a revolutionary new tool.
