American Society for Yad Vashem and Jewish Life Foundation to Salute Hollywood in Fourth Annual Event
On Thursday evening, May 13, 2010, the American Society for Yad Vashem (Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem) and Jewish Life Foundation will salute Hollywood on its continual release of feature films and documentaries containing Holocaust themes. This year's tribute will include recognition of the acclaimed film Inglorious Basterds, produced and directed by Quentin Tarantino, and starring Brad Pitt and Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz. Also included in the salute is the 1990 film, White Hunter Black Heart starring Clint Eastwood, who also directed the film. The motion picture includes a poignant confrontation focusing on anti-Semitism and the Holocaust. (This scene is attached to this bulletin.) Receiving a special award from the American Society for Yad Vashem and Jewish Life Foundation is Jerry Offsay, independent producer and former president of Showtime Networks. Jerry is being honored for his commitment in helping to make possible over a dozen Holocaust-related features and documentaries. The U.S. orchestrated Operation Joshua rescue of nearly 1,000 Ethiopian Jews to Israel is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Portions of the upcoming JLTV special broadcast will be shown at the event. Following the tradition of previous events leading actors will perform dramatic readings from relevant films and plays. This year's event is being held at the Writer's Guild Theater in Beverly Hills.
