On Sunday, November 8, JLTV will broadcast a 24-hour Remembrance Broadcast focusing on "The Night of the Broken Glass," known by its German translation, Kristallnacht. This historic attack on the Jews of Germany and Austria took place in the evening of November 9 and ended in the morning of November 10, 1938. In a coordinated attack on Jewish people and their property, 91 Jews were murdered and nearly 30,000 were arrested and deported to concentration camps. In addition, 110 synagogues were destroyed and thousands of Jewish homes and businesses were ransacked. Kristallnacht
initiated further economic and political persecutions and is viewed by many historians as the beginning of The Final Solution, which led to the genocide of the Holocaust.
The full-day of JLTV's broadcast will include a powerful perspective of Kristallnacht, commentary by leading philosophers, interviews with Holocaust survivors and concentration camp liberators. JLTV will also air portions of Yad Vashem and JLTV's "A Salute to Hollywood" event.
