JLTV to Establish School of Jewish Journalism and Broadcasting
In 2010, JLTV will begin a landmark project with the opening of its School of Jewish Journalism and Broadcasting, which comes off the heels of its parent company's 45 years of existence. Blazer Media Group was founded in 1965 when it launched a weekly Jewish music and comedy radio broadcast. The program still airs in Los Angeles on KGIL (1260 AM). In 1973, The National Jewish News was founded and in 1977, Jewish Life TV began broadcasting a half-hour weekly Sunday program in Los Angeles, which has been airing on KSCI-TV, an independent commercial and over-the- air station for the past 32 years. It is the longest running television program in the entertainment capital of the world. The JLTV School of Journalism and Broadcasting will reach out to students who are interested in creating new dimensions in Jewish media. The courses given will be college accredited and coordinated with journalism and broadcasting departments. At the same time, students will have the opportunity to participate in JLTV's network outreach as apprentices receiving hands-on experience. One of the school's main purposes is to help guarantee the strengthening of Jewish print, radio, television and Internet media across America, Canada and around the world. The school's plans are to expand operations and accreditation in New York, Toronto and Israel.
