JLTV and Jewish Life Foundation to Establish
Ethiopian Jewish Museum and Community Center
at Kaplan Medical Center in Israel
Ethiopian Synagogue, 1993. JLTV and Jewish Life Foundation have announced the establishment of the Ethiopian Jewish Museum and Community Center at Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot, Israel.
Rehovot and the surrounding communities are home to the largest concentration of Ethiopian Jewish immigrants in the State of Israel. The project's goal is to honor their deep and astounding history, along with their heroic journey to Israel through Operations Moses, Joshua and Solomon.
The organizations are working collaboratively to construct the George H.W. Bush Ethiopian Jewish Museum and Community Center in tandem with the hospitals new Children's Center.
The new project is named for the former President, who as Vice President, played the major role in the 1985 rescue known as Operation Joshua.
JLTV President and CEO Phil Blazer was himself one of the catalysts in this CIA clandestine project, which brought approximately 800 Ethiopian Jews to freedom. "This has been a dream of many of us involved in Operation Joshua, to establish a permanent museum to house their artifacts and textual history as well as a place for them to meet and organize as well as socialize," Blazer commented, "I expect that thousands of tourists and Israelis will visit the Ethiopian Jewish Museum and Community Center annually to learn more about their courageous background."
The official groundbreaking will take place on Sunday morning at 11 AM, July 12th on the Kaplan campus.
