JLTV To Produce Documentary, Numbers: The Mark of the Holocaust

PHIL BLAZER: "When JLTV's sister
company, Six Point Films' partner Branko Lustig won the first of his
two Academy Awards for producing Best Picture of the Year, Schindler's
List, he made a most unusual statement. Receiving the award, along with
Steven Spielberg, Branko accepted his statuette with this opening
response: 'My number is A3317.' He was referring to the tattoo on his
arm, a number branded there by the Nazis when he was imprisoned in a
World War II concentration camp as a 10-year-old child. My friend
Jeffrey Margolis, director of this particular Academy Award broadcast,
emotionally reminisced about Branko's declaration. 'Branko brought us
over the time limit with his
acceptance speech,' Jeffrey said, 'but how could I have shorten his
comments after that opening statement.' Jeffrey and the world where
stunned by Branko's announcement. In his memory as a young boy,
Branko's
number became his name. I personally never forgot that moment and that
speech. I believe that the over one billion viewers were also
profoundly impacted by this dramatic revelation. This moment in time
has inspired me to produce, with Canadian producer Igal Hecht, the
documentary short, Numbers: The Mark of the Holocaust. This film will
describe the symbolism of the tattoos to the survivors who wear them.
It will also explore the psyche of those who branded them, and what
these numbers and tattoos mean as part of the Holocaust and its
history. This important and dramatic documentary, Numbers: The Mark of
the Holocaust,
will focus on the emotional impact on the millions of people forced to
undergo this horrific barbarity and those of us who view them."
Scheduled release is November 2009.
