| Notes from the Editor |
The DNA needs
people with enthusiasm to become involved and help the organization grow to its
full potential. While we are in
difficult economic times, the DNA must
focus on its mission and meet the needs of the members. It is also a
time for our membership, to become involved and participate in making this
great organization a success. As our organization succeeds, so do we as
Dermatology Nurses. We come more visible,
and our voices ring louder in unison to increase the recognition given to our
speciality and our ability to meet our patients' needs. Nurses have always been
the patient advocates and educators! Take time to read our eNews and other
publications to learn what DNA members are accomplishing and to remain current
regarding what is happening both in
Dermatology Nursing and nursing in
general.

What's Happening Within the DNA
|
The DNA's name has been added to the Specialty
Nursing Association Global Vision Statement on Care of Older Adults
and the ConsultGeriRN.org vision statement page (Click on "view a
pdf" to see the updated document).
The Health Policy and Advocacy
Committee (HPAC) continues to monitor tanning device legislation, and DNA members
have been invited to testify as witnesses regarding their experiences related
to skin Cancers. The media has picked up
the message, and, on May 12, 2010, Good Morning America's Sam Champion, weather anchor, had MOHS performed
live on the show from the Juva Cancer Center in New York. He has multiple BCC's and SCC's attributed to sun exposure and exposure to tanning beds, since
most TV performers have tans to enhance their looks. If this in your area of
interest and you are not already connected with our HPAC, I recommend that you
connect with them and become involved. No Fry Day This event has occurred recently with the
involvement of many DNA nurses. We would love to hear from the various chapters
regarding how and if you celebrated "No Fry Day." Submit a brief description of your event to
dermnurse@shaw.ca Smack-a-Mole On
a similar note, a comment was passed
along to the DNA regarding how useful the Smack-A-Mole game was in teaching
children. It you have not had the opportunity to purchase this fun teaching tool, you may still purchase this inexpensive game and help the DNA at the same time.

additional information about skin cancer prevention. Smack-A-Mole is designed for personal,
educational and professional use. A teaching tool for all ages, it's a
great way to entertain patients in the waiting room of their doctor's

wellness presentations. Only $5.99! Two dollars from each game purchase will go to The Dermatology Nurses'
Association! How to Buy: 1. Visit www.silkydragon.com 2. Complete a
