How did you get to where you are today? Odds are someone encouraged you-or kicked you in the rear end when you needed it. At Futures4Kids, you have a chance to make that same impact. Step in and change the direction of a kid's life through Futures for Kids (F4K).
At F4K, you talk about what you know-your career. You'll answer questions from kids who are interested in art (or math or bugs or whatever it is you're into) but don't know what that means in terms of a career.
It's easy. You host an online discussion board. You don't get email in your inbox. Rather, F4K "tickles" you with a message when a student puts a question on the board you're hosting.
As a Career Coach, you'll be a "Partner" in our efforts to show kids the relevance of education and the importance of having a career plan. You'll also connect with students who are interested in the same things you were and could one day work for your company.

Click here to sign up as a Career Coach (for any of F4K's 546 career areas) and take a few minutes a week to be an e-mentor for our future workforce!
Do Business with the Federal Government
If you are a business interested in learning how to do business with the government, the SJAFB Trade Show is an opportunity that you can not pass up.  In 2008, 16 million was spent by SJAFB using the Government Purchase Credit Card.
Approving Officials, Alternate Approving Officials and GPC cardholders, from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and the surrounding area have been invited to attend the 2009 GPC Trade Show.  Come and introduce your product and services to the government purchasers, all of whom want to do business with you!

The DOD has implemented new guidelines referred to as Green Procurement.  So if you provide products and services that conserve resources, create less pollution and waste, or eliminate health and safety risks, such as recovered materials, bio-based products, energy and water efficient products, alternative fuels, non-ozone depleting substances, EPA priority chemicals, or environmentally preferable purchasing, the government purchasers want to meet you!

Some of the other products and services the government purchasers are interested in are:
  • Welding consumable and non-consumable electrodes, new machine line up and capabilities/machining accessories and tooling products.
  • Mobile audio/video for teaching/briefing.
  • Products and software to make flyers/poster boards or sources that would do what a graphics department would.
  • Commercial Grade Floor Cleaners
  • Office supplies
  • Law enforcement equipment and supplies
  • Safety related supplies
  • Physical Equipment
  • Lodging supplies
  • Auto Parts
  • Fabrication
  • Tree Services

Local Store Marketing For Retailers
By: John Matthews, Gray Cat Enterprises, Inc.
In today's tough economy, the fight for share-of-customer by retailers to effectively capture sales has never been fiercer.  Retail stores that sit back and wait for the economy to improve will have a very long road to recovery.  Aggressive retailers who go after sales by working the critical three-mile business radius surrounding their stores will not only survive in the short term but will prosper when the economy turns positive--and it will!

Local Store Marketing (LSM) should be a critical, constant component for driving retail sales.  Many LSM tactics can be executed by your existing staff for very little money. Retailers should look at the following ideas to prop up their sales:
  • Improve Visibility:  Has your store become part of the landscape?  Have you become retail wallpaper?  Create excitement outside of your four walls to draw attention to your retail operation.  A-frame boards at the street, cold-air balloons on your roof, mascots waving in crowds, and search lights, etc,. all create and increase visibility.
  • Nudge Your Customers:  For those stores that have customers' lists--reach out to your customers by emailing or calling-- inviting them back to your store.   All it takes is a friendly reminder to keep your retail establishment top-of-mind.
  • Create Customer Loyalty:  Introduce a customer loyalty card and provide incentives for your core customers to visit your store more frequently.  Use these same loyalty incentives to turn casual customers into core customers.
  • Launch Special Recognition Days:  Everyone wants to be recognized, so create an event at your store that recognizes and appreciates certain groups of customers such as key local employers; age groups (i.e. kid's day); or student specials.
  • Create New Customers:  This LSM tactic is designed for restaurants. Establish new relationships in your three-mile radius with local businesses by offering catering of your proprietary foods; contact local hotels to promote your delivery to hotel guests; and set up meetings with your local chamber and surrounding schools and churches to hype your  restaurant as a great venue for their next event.
  • Start Product Sampling:  Here is another excellent LSM tactic for restaurants, whether they are full service or quick service. Want to entice trial of your proprietary food?  Deliver product samples to surrounding businesses in your three-mile radius.  Be sure to hand out menus with your product samples, and then watch the sales roll in.

These are just a few proven LSM tactics that retailers can begin to implement immediately for little or no cost.  Local Store Marketing is critical to your overall marketing strategy and a must in today's tight economy. The most successful retailers win the battle for customer traffic because they make an operational commitment to Local Store Marketing. They know Local Store Marketing captures the entire customer base in the critical three-mile radius surrounding their store.  In addition, they know that implementing Local Store Marketing is low cost or no cost.   Successful retailers effectively infuse their year-long promotional campaigns with Local Store Marketing, building a strong sales foundation for sustained and long-term growth--and you can too!

The decision is yours: you can either choose the passive route--letting your success or failure be predicated on customers opting for your retail establishment--OR you can aggressively maximize the sales opportunities within your three-mile business radius.  Prudent retail operators take control of their marketplaces with Local Store Marketing to maximize every sales opportunity.
