Member of the Week Sampson County History Museum
The Sampson County History Museum was established in 1997 with one two-story building. Today, the nearly two acres of property on 313 Lisbon Street is the home of eight buildings,
one outhouse and a smokehouse. The museum collects and preserves thousands
of artifacts. The museum has on display
everything from a two-headed pig, a deed signed by Thomas Jefferson, a 1916
portable convict jail and all types of military artifacts and agricultural
equipment. The historical collection
demonstrates the culture and the way of life in Sampson
County from the past to the present
day.
The museum has what is believed to be the oldest log cabin
in the county. The Bunting Log Cabin,
circa 1750, was filled with an 1800s loom, spinning wheel, organ and handmade
table with chairs. The latest addition is
the Law Enforcement
Museum, which should be complete by
January. It will house the 1916 portable
convict jail, a four-person cell from the 1950 jail on Vance Street, and memorabilia
from the Highway Patrol, Sheriff Department, Clinton Police, Fire Department and
other law enforcement agencies.
The Sampson County
History Museum
is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. The tour takes about 90 minutes and is free, but
donations are appreciated.

"Dancing With The Stars" The event will feature local couples raising thousands of dollars
for Clinton City Schools technology, all by tapping their toes,
shaking their hips and swirling across the dance floor to the delight
of 350 to 400 guests. All proceeds will be used to provide the teachers
and students of Clinton City Schools with interactive boards and other
technologies that enhance teaching and learning in the 21st century.
Each "Star Dancer" is paired with a professional dancer and competes
to earn dollar-value votes. Proxy votes are encouraged so you don't
even have to see the performance in order to vote for their favorite
dancer. Every vote is $10.00 and it goes toward making your choice
the Dancing With the Clinton Stars Winner. Learn more Vote Now |
