Community Litter Sweep
September 20-October 4
Fall Litter Sweep is coming up later this month across North Carolina. You can make fall in Sampson County even more beautiful by participating in the N.C. Department of Transportation LITTER SWEEP roadside cleanup. This is a great time for scout troops, church groups, schools, businesses, civic clubs and citizens to demonstrate their support for a clean North Carolina.
You can help organize a community clean up in Sampson County by contacting the Chamber of Commerce or local government offices of Sampson County.
Cleanup supplies can be picked up from the local NCDOT county maintenance office. Orange safety vests, orange trash bags, blue recycling bags and gloves will be available. After your cleanup, simply call the local NCDOT county maintenance office to have the filled bags picked up from the roadside.
How to get started:
1. Organize a volunteer group composed of people interested in sprucing up our communities and showing pride in North Carolina. Decide on a date and time between September 20th and October 4th to do your cleanup.
2. Choose a state road you would like to clean. If you need help, call the local NCDOT county maintenance office or Adopt-A-Highway coordinator for recommended roads.
3. Designate someone to pick up your cleanup supplies, and don't forget to call the local NCDOT office to reserve yours.
You can when a prize for "UNUSUAL" LITTER!
During the cleanup, have a camera with you and keep an eye out for unusual litter. Enter any unusual litter in the contest. Cash prizes are awarded:
1st $250
2nd $100
3rd $50
To enter, complete and mail an entry form with a photo of the unusual litter and the person(s) who found it.
Forms to enter the contest are in all promotional packets and may be printed from the NCDOT website or picked up from the Chamber of Commerce or Sampson County local government offices.
