Do You Get the RIGHT Point Across? - Video

Have you ever watched a commercial and loved it, but then when you are talking about it later you can't remember the product? How many times do we give up our message for a gimmick or laugh? Creating an ad that both captures the ears of your ideal client and puts your company at the forefront of their minds is a real accomplishment and is harder than it looks. My son is an intern with TM Advertising in downtown Dallas this summer so this is a hot topic in our home.
So this month's trivia question is good for a $25.00 Brinker restaurant gift card. You'll have to watch the latest video on our Facebook Fan Page to get the answer. Here it is: What product and/or company is each commercial selling? *Helpful Hint: There should be four answers.
The winner will be drawn from among all the correct answers submitted by July 1. Good luck!
While we received several correct answers to last month's trivia question, everyone missed that a referral needed to accompany their answer. So, unfortunately, there was no winner. Better luck this month.

Call to Action!

A few weeks ago I received a disturbing e-mail from Summer Wilkinson with the accounting firm Carroll Caton Greenway, PC (www.ccgcpa.com). Her email addressed shocking new legislation regarding S corporations. Apparently, these new laws, if put into effect, are going to apply to professional service companies with 3-4 or fewer shareholders whose "reputation and expertise" are used in the company. The US House has already passed this new bill called the American Jobs and Close Tax Loopholes Act of 2010. The Senate still needs to pass it, but is expected to do so quickly.
Here are the highlights:
If you have a professional services S Corporation, your distributions will now be subject to 15.3% self-employment tax.
The definition of 'professional services' is sufficiently vague to allow the IRS some wriggle room when the Code and eventually Regulations are written. At this point, assume if that if you provide any kind of professional service this is going to affect you.
It is only applicable to S corporations who have 3-4 or fewer professionals whose "reputation and expertise" are used in the company.
This is clearly a bill that is targeted at ONLY small business owners. So what to do? Please contact your congressman or senator and tell them that you are offended by this law and that you expect them to vote against it.
To figure out who to contact, click for the US House or Senate.
