Normally I TIVO my ball games and then watch them back at my leisure...with all commercials clipped.  Not so on Super Bowl Sunday!  I'll have to admit, overall, I thought the quality and quantity of good ads was way down this year. But the ones I liked - I really liked!  Can't say if I have just one favorite one, but Betty White's Snickers commercial was pretty funny.  I also enjoyed the Doritos series of ads.

Also, while being a dyed-in-the-wool Cowboys fan, I was really happy to see the Saints take it all.  Geaux Who-Dat Nation!

What was your favorite commercial from the Super Bowl?  Send us an email with your vote.  We'll let you know the results next month.  One winner will be drawn from among the voters of the favorite commercial and will win a $25.00 gift card to any Brinker restaurant - Chili's, On The Border or Maggiano's.  Of course, you have to use it with one of us....just kidding.
2010 Wills and Trusts at Peril?

In 2010, for the first time since 1915, there is no federal estate tax in the US.  As of January 1, 2010, the federal estate tax and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax were repealed.  Under current law, the repeal is scheduled to be in effect for all of 2010, although Congress may reenact the estate and GST taxes (possibly retroactive to January, 2010) at some time during the year.  Interpretation of your wills, trusts and/or other estate planning documents will be uncertain at best.

It's uncertain how the provisions of wills, trusts and other estate planning documents will be interpreted this year because many attorneys who created these documents used terminology such as "the estate tax exemption amount" and "marital deduction."  These tax concepts are not in the law this year, so there may be some question as to what your documents mean.  If a trust shows children as beneficiaries, the trust is left unchanged, and the unthinkable happens this year, a possible scenario could leave the surviving spouse with nothing while all assets are given to the children.

One solution for these issues is to take out short-term life insurance during 2010 to provide funds for the surviving spouse, pay income taxes on carryover basis property, or equalize distributions among beneficiaries.

"Football is a game played with arms, legs and shoulders but mostly from the neck up." ~ Knute Rockne

"When I played pro football, I never set out to hurt anyone deliberately - unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something." ~ Dick Butkus

"Football features two of the worst aspects of American life, violence and committee meetings." ~ George F. Will

They must be willing to work hard and for commissions only.  But they get to me around such wonderful people.  That's pay enough in my book....not really.

Office 2007 Extensions

Office 2007 brought a new file format that ends with the letter X. Therefore, a Word document now has the file extension docx instead of doc. PowerPoint is pptx, and Excel is xlsx. Although Microsoft made a few attempts to add a few new features, the primary reason for this change is to create an incompatibility between Office 2007 and other versions.

Therefore, if someone sends an email with a docx attachment and you're still using Office 2003 or earlier, you'll try to open the file, but you won't be able to open it. In my view, this is a hard ball technique to get users to upgrade more quickly to Office 2007.

Fortunately, you can download the Office 2007 compatibility pack which will allow you to open 2007 files with older versions.
