| Client Profile - Plum Crazy |
|

Plum Crazy is owner Melissa Hudson's longtime vision and passion. She grew up and attended college in the South, where she developed an appreciation for gracious living and Southern hospitality. Melissa is still influenced by the many fabulous shops she frequented while living there, and the store name, a Southern expression, pays homage to her roots. In addition, Melissa's father was in the furniture business which further enhanced her interest in furnishings and accessories. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Melissa dreamed of creating her own retail store that would bring all of the elements she experienced in fine family owned and operated shops in the South, to her community. With encouragement from her family, she brought her dream to life through Plum Crazy.

| The Reata BizBlog |
I am pleased to announce the launch of Reata's Blog. I would have never guessed just a few short years ago that I would be involved with anything with a name like "Blog." What a strange name. You will see more real estate topics in the BizBlog and, of course, it allows for your comments. It is hosted through a site called Active Rain which is primarily focused on the real estate industry.
You can ask questions to the users of Active Rain and you will get lots of answers. I posted a comment related to my rental house that I am selling and got 5 responses within a couple of hours.
I have added a link to my blog on the home page of our website and in the signature of my emails. If you would like to see it now, just click here.

| BizTip - OpenOffice |
|
So let's say you want the functionality of Microsoft Office, but you don't want to drop $400 for the license. It could be a 2nd or 3rd computer used by your child for school and you just aren't ready to spend the money.
The solution? OpenOffice.org. Office programs are essential for productivity, not only on the job but at home. This is a replacement for Microsoft Office's Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
The best part? It's free! OpenOffice.org is a free open-source multi-platform suite that includes the core office productivity programs Writer (word processor), Calc (spreadsheet), Impress (presentations) and Base (database).

The Lingo - "ADA" |
Federal regulations intended to equalize access in buildings for people with disabilities were made law in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991 (ADA). New buildings must comply with ADA standards to the extent practical. But that doesn't mean that existing buildings don't have to comply as well. Lease spaces in existing buildings must comply when substantially remodeled. The State of Texas has expanded on the ADA and added enforcement provisions. Architects, for example, are required by law to send plans to the state if the cost of remodeling is expected to exceed $50,000. Failure to do so could cost them their licenses. Again, that doesn't mean that projects under $50,000 don't have to comply. It just means that you don't have to get state approval in advance. If someone enters a building and finds it to be out of compliance, they can file a complaint in Texas or even sue at the federal level. The ADA also addresses workplace accommodations which go beyond the real estate. It could include accessible computers, phones, etc. For other real estate terms, see the Glossary on Reata's website. |
