Having relocated to Plano as a parent of two young children, Dr. Minette Riordan found she had trouble finding information on local events and services she needed in the North Texas area. She assumed that other moms probably were having the same problem and would appreciate knowing more about what was happening in their own backyards.

So she started doing some research.  One startling statistic she found in Maria Bailey's book, Trillion Dollar Moms, is that moms control over 2 trillion dollars in spending and they make 80% of all household purchasing decisions. Yet 70% of them feel like mainstream advertising and marketing does not address their needs and that most companies are not speaking to them.

Fame or Friendship?

Take the following quiz:Stacks of Money

1. Name the 5 wealthiest people in the world
2. Name the last 5 Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last 2 winners of the Miss America contest.
1947 Avenue K4. Name 10 people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.
5. Name the last 6 Academy Award winners for best actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?  The point is, none of us remember all the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers.  They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten.  Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here is another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.1947 Avenue K
2. Name 3 friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name 5 people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of  3 people who've made you feel appreciated or special.
5. Think of 5 people you enjoy spending time with.
6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.

Easier?  The lesson?  The people who make a difference in life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.  Which are you to your clients?

BizTip - Create a Task from Email

EmailSo many emails, so little time.... Wouldn't it be great if you could organize some of your "task oriented" emails into one area - and automatically be reminded of what needs to be done and what the completion status is? Well, you can if you use Outlook! Here's how.

Drag the message that you want to convert to a task to the Tasks button in the navigation pane. If the message has an attachment, you have to drag that separately.

The TASK window will then open, allowing you to select the options that you want. You can even "assign" your task to someone else in your office and track their progress on its completion.

The Lingo - "Useable" & "Rentable"

Useable and Rentable are both used to describe the number of square feet (SF) in a lease space.  Useable is the space that is actually available for the tenant to use exclusively.  This is space in which you can put desks, employees, files, conference rooms, merchandise, etc.

Rentable, on the other hand, is the amount of space for which you pay rent.  Shouldn't these two numbers be the same?  Well in a retail space, flex buildings, or office condos, they usually are the same.

But if you are in a multi-tenant office building, you share common areas like restrooms, elevator lobbies, electrical rooms and corridors with other tenants.  So a small portion of those common areas - also known as the "building core" - is added to each lease.

You may have heard the term "core factor" or "add-on factor" used.  This is simply the percentage added onto the useable SF to arrive at the rentable SF.

So if you leased 5,000 useable SF and the core factor was 15%, you would actually pay rent on 5,750 rentable SF.
