June Beers: Hop Happy

The month B3 is feeling all kinds of "hop-py" thanks to our menu of hopped-up brews and some of the finest small batch American Craft IPAs available. Kick back and try a few. Here's what we're serving:

India Pale Ales (IPA) and Imperial India Pale Ale (2XIPA). Imperial Pale Ales (also known as Double IPAs) are distinguished by their prominent hop cone aromas and flavors, and bitterness that is hop cone and hands
intense assertive. Colors range from deep gold to deep amber. They are medium to full-bodied in weight with notes of hop haze. Depending on the varieties of hops being used, the drinker can experience a wide range of hop flavors including tart citrus peels, pepper and earthy pine notes.

Left Hand Brewing 400 Pound IPA, Colorado - Brassy in color, with an off-white head, the Monkey exhibits an earthiness quite different from American-style IPAs. Soft aromas of freshly cut hay, bitter orange and white cheese rind are the first impression. But once the cage has been opened and a sip savored, a multi-pronged 12-monkey assault on the palate begins. 6.7% ABV.

Blue Point Hoptical Illusion IPA, New York - Partaking in a few of these won't leave you seeing stars, but you will be left craving more. This American-style India Pale Ale features a rare hop grown exclusively on a small farm in Oregon. Hoptical Illusion is brewed with a generous amount of this select hop that's added five different ways for maximum hop flavor. 6.8% ABV.

Southern Tier 2XIPA, New York - "4 types of hops & 3 types of malts". Not quite an imperial, but certainly not a standard India pale ale. Southern Tier's IPA is a hop lovers dream. Citrusy and clean with an incredible finish. 8.2% ABV.

Terrapin Beer Company Rye Squared Imperial Pale Ale, Georgia - Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 9.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one!

Terrapin Beer Company Hopsecutioner IPA, Georgia - Hear ye, hear ye...hopheads around the southeast are rejoicing today at the news that Terrapin Beer Company has announced the release of the Hopsecutioner IPA! You can run but you can't hide from the amazing hop profile. 7.2% ABV

Cigar City Jai Alai IPA, Florida - Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport.  This creamy amber IPA unleashes waves of flavor, first introducing a malty sweetness, then a rich, hoppy bitterness that draws raves from aficionados and novices alike. 7.5% ABV.

Wines: Big Wines for Small Races

This month we are tracking a handful of smaller stage races sprinkled across Europe. Riders use these races to fine tune their form for the epic showdown at the Tour de France in July.  Our wine offerings this month hail from countries hosting some of the smaller races, such as the Dauphine Libere in France and the Giro del Trentino Alto Adige in Italy.

San Telmo, Torrontes, Argentina - This white wine comes from the distinctive Torrentes grape, which is unique to Argentina and is the country's most popular white varietal.  Intensely aromatic and refreshing, this wine entices you with delightful floral and orange peel notes.

Capezzana "Barco Reale" Red Blend, Tuscany, Italy - Meaning "Royal Property" this wine is a traditional Carmignano blend of 70% Sangeovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Canaiolo. Soft, voluminous and medium-bodied with great balance.

Chianti Ruffino, Italy - Medium-bodied, Chianti Ruffino is characterized by a marvelous freshness that makes Chianti Ruffino a very pleasant and easy to drink wine. Persistent fruity sensations feature a long aftertaste. 75% Sangiovese plus other varieties, such as Canaiolo and Colorino.

Conti Contini Sangiovese, Tuscany, Italy - Made with 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in Tuscany this is a well balanced wine with a pleasant fruity bouquet and flavors of blackberry fruit.

Chateau Bonnet Reserve Bordeaux '07, France - Château Bonnet estate dates back to the 17th century; when André Lurton took over in 1956, it comprised 30 hectares of vineyard, which he immediately undertook to renovate and develop. Andre has crafted this refreshing, juicy red from classic Bordeaux varitales 50% Cabernet and 50% Merlot

Chateau Greysac '06, Medoc, France - A beautiful medium bodied left-bank Bordeaux loaded with red fruits with mild tannins upon release. 50% Cabernet, 38% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot.

jenipher lyn artB Creative Artist: Jenipher Lyn

We have a whimsical B Creative artist on display this month: the charming illustrator Jenipher Lyn. Her illustration series "Nightly Doodles" came around unexpectedly out of simple doodle-per-day exercise she completed to overcome a creative block as a jewelry designer.

As they evolved, Jenipher's Nightly Doodles began to share little gems of wisdom, random thoughts, and whimsical notions that elicit a chuckle or two. Nightly Doodles are now sold as prints and greetings cards at art shows and on her website. Jenipher is overjoyed that her work will happily hang here at B3.

Seasonal Soup, Salad and Sandwich:

Seasonal Soup:  Green Chili and Corn Bisque (vegetarian and gluten free):  Roasted corn, green chilies, diced onion, zesty jalapeños, green peppers and red peppers come together in a creamy, indulgent bisque seasoned with ancho chili pepper, cumin, garlic and oregano.

 cucumber and dill

Seasonal Salad: spring mix topped with fresh mango, fresh strawberries, red onion, pecans and mozzarella cheese. Balsamic dressing served on the side.
