May Beers: Left Coast in the House

The month we're tracking the 2011 Amgen Tour of California, a Tour de France-style cycling road race considered the largest cycling event in America. Presented by AEG, this race challenges the world's top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding, recently expanded course that runs from Lake Tahoe to Thousand Oaks, from May 15th through the 22nd. This month, in honor of the TOC, we're "going back to Cali" and bringing you a taste of the left coast brews as we watch George Hincapie and other top cyclists from around the world compete.

TOC Logo

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a delightful interpretation of the classic pale ale style with a deep amber color and an exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. Generous quantities of premium Cascade hops give this ale its fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor. 5.6% ABV

Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA -Sierra Nevada Torpedo is a big American IPA; bold, assertive, and full of flavor highlighting the complex citrus, pine, and herbal character of whole-cone American hops. 7.2% ABV

Sierra Nevada Summerfest - Summerfest is a refreshing, pilsner-style lager. Its incredible smoothness comes from an extra-long lagering period. Lighter in body than our ales but just as complex in character, Summerfest quenches your thirst with big aroma and a tangy hop bite. 5% ABV

Anchor Steam - San Francisco's famous Anchor SteamŪ, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to the use of the traditional brewing process. 4.9% ABV.

Stone pale aleStone Pale Ale - Stone's flagship ale, Stone Pale Ale is their Southern California interpretation of the classic British pale ale style. Deep amber in color, Stone Pale Ale is robust and full flavored. A delicate hop aroma is complemented by rich maltiness. This is an ale for those who have learned to appreciate distinctive flavor. Stone Pale Ale is great by itself, or with food that requires a beer of character.  5.2% ABV.

Wines: Italian Love

There are few things Italians love more than cycling and wine. In honor of the Giro d'Italia, B3 has both for you this month.  Second only to the Tour de France as cycling's most prestigious race, The giro d italiaGiro is a race known for its epic climbs, some so high that riders have to contend with lingering snow and ice on the road. The leader stands out by wearing the "maglia rosa" (pink jersey) and the battle isn't over until 21 stages have been completed including the final day time trial in Milan. This year's race promises a battle of epic proportions between cycling's top riders.

Stellina de Notte Prosecco - A sparkling wine with delicate aromas of citrus, pear, melon, lemon and almonds. Elegant bubbles enliven the flavors, making them dance on the palate. The body is light, with a lovely balance between crisp acidity and touch of sweetness. The hint of minerals in the finish is a classic quality of the Prosecco grape, which has been grown in the Tre Venezie region of Northern Italy since Roman times. Venetians consider Prosecco the perfect aperitivo or ombra (pick-me-up).

Stellina di Notte, Pinot Grigio - Features alluring aromas of melon, kiwi, and golden apple. Smooth and silky on the palate, it offers lush tropical fruit and citrus flavors.

Capezzana "Barco Reale" Red Blend - Meaning "Royal Property" this wine is a traditional Carmignano blend of 70% Sangeovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Canaiolo. Soft, voluminous and medium-bodied with great balance.

chiantiChianti Ruffino - Medium-bodied, Chianti Ruffino is characterized by a marvelous freshness that makes Chianti Ruffino a very pleasant and easy to drink wine. Persistent fruity sensations feature a long aftertaste. 75% Sangiovese plus other varieties, such as Canaiolo and Colorino.

Conti Contini Sangiovese - Made with 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in Tuscany this is a well balanced wine with a pleasant fruity bouquet and flavors of blackberry fruit.

Villa Pozzi Nero D' Avola - Seductively reveals a perfume of black-berry liqueur, white flowers, vanilla and a hint of figs. Opulent and full-bodied, with great intensity, superb purity, and a layered, seamless personality.

If you love yourself some Italy, but aren't a fan of wine, no worries: we're also serving Italy's top selling beer: Peroni.

B Creative: Artist Open House

May 7th at 7:30 PM Featuring DJ OAM

We have a whimsical new B Creative artist this month: the charming illustrator Jenipher Lyn. Her illustration series "Nightly Doodles" cherry runwaycame around unexpectedly out of simple doodle-per-day exercise she completed to overcome a creative block as a jewelry designer.

As they evolved, Jenipher's Nightly Doodles began to share little gems of wisdom, random thoughts, and whimsical notions that elicit a chuckle or two. Nightly Doodles are now sold as prints and greetings cards at art shows and on her website. Jenipher is overjoyed that her work will happily hang here at B3.
