Happy New Year!happy new year

Greetings!

Out with the old; in with the new! New hours, new seasonal menu options, and a brand-spanking new year! Happy 2011, everyone! When it comes to getting the jump on all of those New Year's resolutions, remember: the early bird gets the worm. Luckily, the early bird also gets breakfast on the weekend, now that we're opening our doors at 8 am on Saturdays and Sundays. So come on in, say hello, and let's toast the start of a great new year together!

January Beers: Winter Brews

Now that the cold blustery winds of January are a'blowin', it's time to put away the light American citrusy craft beers, and get into a European pub state of mind. Nothing warms the soul quite like an English or Scottish winter ale (or cider), with their deep flavors of malt, toffee, butterscotch and caramel. This month we are featuring several great brews from across the pond.

Bass (English Pale Ale) , England - This full-flavored ale is still brewed according to its original recipe. English malts, aromatic hops and water rich in essential salts and minerals combine to give Bass its slight burnt roast aroma and high-quality, full-bodied flavor.  5.1%ABV.

boddingtonsBoddington's (Pub Ale), England - Renowned for its golden color, distinctive creamy head, smooth body and easy drinking character, Boddingtons is a medium-bodied pale ale with a malty and slightly sweet flavor that features a clean, pleasant aftertaste.  4.6% ABV.

Redhook ESB (English Extra Special Bitter), Washington - Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook's signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. 5.8% ABV.

Orlando Brewing Olde Pelican (Organic English Style Pale Ale) - Hop aroma is delicately balanced.  Caramel malt and butterscotch aroma is enticingly moderate.  Rich and inviting malt aromas are unmistakable.

Woodpecker Cider, England - The use of bittersweet apple provides Woodpecker with a distinctive taste and refreshing drinkability. A crisp semi-dry finish, amber hue with a lightly sparkling appearance, sweet fruity aroma and a slight toffee-apple note. 5.5% ABV

Erie Brewing Railbender Ale (Scottish Ale), Pennsylvania - Scottish Style Ale: Erie Brewing Company's flagship beer features a deep malt flavor, caramel sweetness lingering in a soft hop flavor. Dark Amber. 6.8% ABV.

Ol' Red Cease and Desist (Scottish Ale), Erie Brewing Company, Pennsylvania - This high potency seasonal Scottish style ale has a powerful caramel malt flavor, finishing climatically with a smooth warming sensation. Deep dark red color.  10.1% ABV.

Wines: Shiraz from Down Under

The 2011 world cycling season is kicking off this month in beautiful South Australia with The Tour Down Under. In celebration, B3 is headed "down under" (at least our wine lists are).

Archetype Shiraz, Australia - This wine has all the characteristics of classic Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. Minimal vineyard irrigation, low yielding vines, and a variety of vine ages (5 years to more than 50 years) gives this Shiraz its layers and fruit intensity, but with a graceful balance. This wine shows juicy red berries with a hint of mocha and a smoky note on the finish. You'll enjoy the intense, concentrated fruit flavors of this medium-bodied Shiraz.

Archetype Shiraz - Cabernet, Australia - The nose of this rich Cabernet-Shiraz blend announces the presence of classic Barossa Shiraz, with notes of blackberry, blueberry and cassis and a hint of dried sage. Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly present in the structure and complexity of this dense, full-bodied wine. Moderate oak doesn't detract from, but rather complements, the intense fruit flavors.

Also on the B3 wine menu this month:

Sacred Hill, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand - A lifted medley of aromatics with passionfruit, lychee and gooseberry characters. A rich and mouth-filling palate with abundant tropical fruit flavours of passionfruit, lychee and gooseberry following the aroma. Beautifully balanced with a textural mid-palate and lingering tropical aftertaste.

L'Estandon Blanc, France - A blend of Rolle (60%), Ugni Blanc and Sémillon (10%). A pale lemon colour with flashes of green. The nose is subtle, with hints of white flowers. A clean, mineral-laden palate finishes with notes of citrus and white-fleshed fruits.

Live Music

Come out for a great night of visual and audio pleasure. We are really happy to have our friend and talented photographer, Jeff Kurzon as our B-Creative Artist. Come in and see his thought provoking black and white photography. Beyond that he will be providing us with music throughout the evening.

Jeff's Bio:

I started working in photography on my own in 1986 in Boston.  My band had broken up and I needed a creative outlet.  In 1988 I sought formal training and education at Creadle School of Art for a period of 4 years.

During the course of our days, we will pass by so many people without seeing them.  With my photos, I ask the observer to take a minute and "see"  some of the interesting folks I have met over the years.

I do this for my own personal enjoyment so I do not show my art very often.  This show spans work from 1988-2010

Tour Down Under

January 17th - 23rd
 lance radioshack

Come watch Lance Armstrong's last international cycling event on the B3 flat screen. Modeled after the Tour de France as a way to bring a major annual road cycling event to South Australia, The Tour Down Under began as a six day event (January 19-24, 1999). The inaugural race so captivated and excited spectators (bringing out impressive numbers in every city and tiny town en route) that the race grew in leaps and bounds every year since. Now world-class teams and riders compete on the streets of South Australia in a bid to win the Ochre Leaders Jersey.
