| May Beers:
Terrapin Beer Company, Athens, GA One of the best brewing companies in the southeast, Terrapin Beer Company was born in 2002 when brewers Spike and John were working at an Atlanta microbrewery and realized that they could make a more unique contribution to the southeast brewery scene than what was on the market. Moving beyond the standard pale ale, brown ale and stouts offered by competitors, Spike and John focused on crafting exceptional beers unavailable in the region. Terrapin's first beer, the Rye Pale Ale quickly won the American Pale Ale Gold Medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival just six short months after it was introduced. Terrapin has been on a roll ever since crafting uncommonly great brews. This month, B3 is making Terrapin our featured brewer. Stop by to give these a try:
Hopsecutioner IPA - You can run but you can't hide from the amazing hop profile executed in this latest addition to Terrapin's year round beer portfolio. What is the devious grin on the Hopsecutioners masked face all about? It's because he's already had a pint! If you haven't, you're going to want to change that! 7.2% ABV Rye Pale Ale - By using an exact amount of rye (a grain seldom found in other micro brewed beers) this Pale Ale acquires its signature taste. Made with five varieties of hops and a generous amount of specialty malts, the Rye Pale Ale offers a complex flavor and aroma that is both aggressive and well balanced - a rare find among beers. 5.5% ABV
Hop Karma Brown The Terrapin Hop Karma IPA (formerly known as the India Style Brown Ale) - this is a head-on collision between a hoppy, west coast IPA and a complex, malty brown ale. Brewed with 5 varieties of hops and 7 different malts, this hybrid style represents the best of both worlds. 6.0% ABV SunRay Wheat - a German-style unfiltered beer brewed with a touch of local Georgia Coast Tupelo honey from the Savannah Bee Company. Its inviting banana and sweet clove-like aroma gives way to a pleasant, clean finish with a hint of tartness. 5.2% ABV Monk's Revenge (B3's Big Beer of the Month!) - Another great seasonal release from Terrapin's Monster Beer Tour! Step back in time for this holier-than-thou union of two great brewing traditions that are worlds apart. Kudos to Friar Spike and Little John for marrying a classic Belgian Style Tripel and a new age American Double IPA. 9.8% ABV

Wines: Epic Race, Epic Wines There are few things Italians love more than cycling and wine. In honor of this month's Giro d'Italia, B3 is giving you a little of both. Second only to the Tour de France as cycling's most prestigious race, The Giro is known for its epic climbs (some so high that riders have to contend with lingering snow and ice on the road). The race leader stands out by wearing the "maglia rosa" (pink jersey) and the battle isn't over until 21 stages have been completed, including the final day time trial in Verona. This year's race promises to be an edge-of-your-seat battle between cycling's top riders. So while you watch the saga unfold, savor some stellar Italian wines. Here is what we're pouring for you this month: Stellina de Notte Prosecco, (Italy) The elegant bubbles of this sparkling wine dance with delicate flavors and aromas of citrus, pear, melon, lemon and almonds. The body is light, with a lovely balance between crisp acidity, a touch of sweetness and a hint of minerals in the finish that denotes the classic quality of the Prosecco grape. Stellina di Notte, Pinot Grigio, (Friuli, Italy) Featuring alluring aromas of melon, kiwi, and golden apple, this wine feels smooth and silky on the palate, offering lush tropical fruit and citrus flavors. Capezzana "Barco Reale" Red Blend, (Tuscany, Italy) Its name meaning "Royal Property", this wine is a soft, voluminous, medium-bodied traditional Carmignano blend of 70% Sangeovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Canaiolo. Chianti Monrosso, (Tuscany, Italy) This elegant and classic interpretation of Sangiovese is delivered by Castello di Monsanto with a luminous personality and bright aromas of cherry, currants, violets and light spice. You'll find this wine fresh and bright with a very pleasing and refreshing acidity. |

National Bike Month:
Oh, yea! You know we're geeking out. National Bike Month is our favorite! So whether you're decked out in official cycling gear or riding a beach cruiser with a basket, bell and tassels, we don't care. Just hop on that bike (don't forget your helmet!) and ride! All month long we encourage you to leave your car at home and bike to work, school, or around town whenever possible. The celebration's official Bike to Work Week is May 17-21 and if you can only swing it for one day, mark your calendar because Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 21. And in further exciting cycling news, it seems Orlando might be getting its own Mountain Bike Park. Learn more about it at their facebook page. |
