Maine's Favorite Amusement Park Opens On Saturday
Saco, Maine - Summer
officially kicks off this Saturday at 11am when Funtown Splashtown
USA opens the amusement park for its 44th season! |
This
year the park is pulling out all the stops to make this the best opening
weekend ever. "We have special events planned for both days this weekend," said
Ed Hodgdon, Funtown's marketing manager. "If fact, we have a different event
nearly every day this month." On
Saturday May 15, the Second Annual Funtown Music Festival will be drawing local
middle and high school students to perform and have fun at the park. Groups
will perform in front of adjudicators and then be given a mini clinic. Concert
bands will perform at Loranger Middle School in Old Orchard Beach, while choirs
will perform on the park grounds. After the performance and clinic, the
students will get to celebrate by finishing out their day on the rides. On
Sunday May 16, the park will celebrate Moms with its annual Mother's Day
Celebration. All moms get a free bracelet with a paying guest. The first 200
moms receive a free gift package including a carnation from Maine Floral
Creations in Scarborough and a free ticket to a Portland Sea Dogs game. Upcoming
events include Physics Day on Thursday May 20 and Friday May 21, Take 25 Day on Sunday May 23, Soul
Jam 2010 on Saturday May 29 and the new Memorial Day Celebration on Monday May 31 where all
active duty military receive free entrance into the park.
And if that weren't enough, the park is rolling back its prices to 1999 levels. Guests will pay the same rates they did in twelve season ago. Roll back rates will be in effect every day the park is open to the general public from Opening Day through Friday June 11 with the exception of Memorial Day weekend.
