Notes from the President...
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!
I'm excited to be serving as your Parent Booster Club President this year. The PBC works to support the school in many ways: we provide volunteers, we raise funds, and we keep the community strong by supplementing school events with PBC-run events. I look forward to working with all of you!
Our children are natural "sponges" that absorb information from all angles. As such, they are naturally affected by the overriding beliefs of the surrounding culture...how wonderful that a large part of their day is spent in our amazing Westwood culture! In addition to the life lessons of Character, Community, and Academic Excellence that they will gain from Westwood, we want them to feel part of an extended family.
I strongly believe in the Nigerian proverb "Ora na azu nwa" which means it takes the community/village to raise a child. Our community provides a safe, consistent, loving environment for them to grow into amazing members of society. As their first and most influential teachers, we as parents are always modeling for our children. The value our children see us place on our community here at Westwood through our efforts to be involved will have a lasting effect.
There's a lot of excitement ahead of us, and the Parent Booster Club is here to help and support the school and all of our families. I encourage you to fully embrace every opportunity to get involved in our children's education and in the Westwood community.
Thank you for your commitment to your child's education and well being. I look forward to seeing you in the very near future.
Sincerely,
Whitney Lemons
PBC President

Westwood Annual Fall Social/Reception
Saturday, September 8th - 6:30 to 9:30 |
|
Come join us for a warm, welcoming evening. Enjoy a relaxed setting for socializing with veteran families, newcomers, and our incredible Westwood staff. We will have hors d'oeuvres, wine, and plenty of fun. The High School will be open for exploring, and we will have information on different Westwood activities through the year.
Please bring two bottles of wine as your entrance fee: One to share that evening and one to be used in the always exciting wine pull at this year's Annual Auction. For bringing that second bottle of wine, you will be entered in a drawing for two tickets to attend the Annual Auction (Raffle drawing will be done that evening!)
Childcare will be provided by the High School & Middle School students at the lower school campus. Childcare is $15 for the first child, $10 for siblings. Childcare is only available to potty trained children ages 3 to 11. Children will be treated to pizza, drinks, fun and games!
You will be receiving Sign-up Genius emails to book child care, volunteer for set up/clean up and to bring a favorite hors d'oeuvres or dessert for this event.
Hope to see you there!

Box Tops are Back!!
Once again, we are collecting Box Tops to benefit Westwood. Each Box Top you clip from a qualifying purchase is worth $0.10-an easy way to raise money! Once your children recognize the Box Tops logo, the job is even easier. My kids have eagle eyes for Box Tops, & love to cut them out-they feel a sense of participation in supporting Westwood. Best of all, the class that turns in the most Box Tops will win the traditional springtime ice cream party! Place your Box Tops in the labeled white bag on the bulletin board outside your child's classroom. The Middle School's collection bag is hanging outside the IBeanery, & the High School's bag is hanging in the High School lobby.
Thanks for participating,
Kate Watson |
We had an amazing first year of PBC Sports last year. We are looking forward to a new year with lots of opportunities to stay active. Your PBC Sports Coordinator will be keeping you informed about sports opportunities throughout the year.
Marathon Kids - Co-Ed - 5yrs through 6th Grade
The PBC kicks off a second fabulous year of Marathon Kids! The Dallas Kickoff Event will be held at Loos Stadium on October 13th at 10:00 am sharp. Children ages 5 years old through 6th grade may register at no cost and will be able to participate in the Dallas Final Mile in March if they have incrementally completed a total of 26.2 miles (walking and/or running) during that time. All miles are completed outside of school and on the child's own schedule using a fun tracking chart for them to fill in. Educational information about nutrition and exercise will be sent out to participants throughout the event timeline as well. Registration forms were in our Gold Envelopes. For more information, visit www.MarathonKids.org.

Everyone Loves to be Loved!!
We are excited to show the Westwood staff our appreciation for their hard work and dedication. As is the case with most of us, knowing that we are loved and appreciated definitely makes our days happier and likely helps us fulfill our jobs even better. Stay tuned. Announcements will go out in future newsletters and memos asking for volunteers to make goodies for snacks / potlucks.
