Caven ATKINS Gathering Clouds 8 - 29 September . 2012
>> Opening reception: Saturday, 8 September at 11am Saturday, September 8th at 11am marks the opening of Gathering Clouds, our first solo exhibition of Caven Aktins' works at Ingram Gallery, Toronto. A multi-talented visionary, painting alongside Carl Schaefer, Charles Comfort and Fritz Brandtner -- Caven Atkins (1907-2000) was a master of all media. Curated as a significant part of our 2011 exhibition In the Neighbourhood, Caven Atkins had studios on both Howland and Ossington in Toronto. In addition to his Ontario days, Caven Atkins was also part of the artistic communities of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Detroit, Michigan.
Exhibition Schedule updates
The months ahead at Ingram Gallery are shaped by three back to back significant solo exhibitions. Soon after our Caven Atkins exhibition in September -- we open Ryan Price's 4th solo enticingly titled Woodswork. Recently in studio with Sara Sniderhan, we are most excited by what is in store for all with Sniderhan's 2nd solo at the gallery. ....get back home opens November 15th.

I paint what I dream, I draw what I know and I collage who I am. - Florence Vale (1909-2003)
In addition to the wealth of art news above, recent weeks have also seen new works to the walls by Harold Town, Jack Beder & Florence Vale. A new essay on Vale is in the works and will be available shortly as a PDF by email. Just this week we have seen the arrival of figurative bronze sculptures by Montréal-realist Oscar Ross and we continue to be on the lookout for fine folk art by Ontario 'folk'.
Art has no middle ground. Either it works or it doesn't. Bad art is not the enemy, mediocre art is the enemy.
- Harold Town (1924-1990), 1987
