Anna YUSCHUK Oscillations 2 - 23 October . 2010
Opening celebration with the Artist: Saturday 2 October, 2-5pm
Oscillations is both an affirmation of the transcendence and of the re-birth of Yuschuk's process as a whole. Indeed, the title of the series reveals what the artist herself describes as a reversal, a return to form. Born through a philosophy of constantly circulating energy, Oscillations no longer documents the artist's process of reconciling meaning, form and representation, but instead meditates upon its realization. ~ AJ Lloyd Anna Yuschuk's fifth solo exhibition with Ingram Gallery, Oscillations is the first new series since exhibiting Passage publicly at the Art Gallery of Peel in 2008. To coincide with the opening of Oscillations, the gallery has published a new Anna Yuschuk catalogue that features Yuschuk's newest work as well as a look back to her signature canvases over the years.
My current work is loosely based on the structure of the mandala. I am attracted to the shape of a circle as a geometric whole and by its traditional use as an object of contemplation. The word 'mandala' comes from a Sanskrit word that generally means 'circle', but the etymology of the word 'mandala' suggests not just a circle but a 'container of essence'. The image of the mandala represents for me repetitive patterns of life, no matter how complex or simple, contained in the wholeness of a circle. ~ Anna Yuschuk, 2010 |
