The first annual Conference for Health Professionals is just around the corner!  With just over a month to go, we are excited to share with you conference speaker biographies as well as our menu for the event. Just a quick reminder that conference registration fees increase after September 15th, so register early and save!

 Why we are here; Healthy Heart Schools' Program 
Healthy Heart Schools' Program (1987) is designed to support teachers delivering the grade 9 physical education curriculum in Niagara.  This enrichment program includes a personal assessment of fitness, a health questionnaire, and an assessment day with height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, total and HDL cholesterol testing as well as a second class for bystander CPR training and automatic defibrillator (AED) education.

Review of current evidence about the origins of cardiovascular disease (CVD), adolescent cardiovascular risk, and early CVD risk detection.

The Niagara District Stroke Centre with a specially trained ER stroke team, has spear-headed the expanded stroke program at GNG.  A cornerstone of improving care and outcomes in the concept of clustering patients with similar conditions so that a specialized care team can provide treatment.

 When patients are treated under strict guidelines, protocols and checklists will do better.  The standard of care is exceeded when staff has experience and the right skill set.

 Lifelong learning is essential to continuing competence and the conference's learning objectives will support nurses in demonstrating their commitment to continually improving their nursing practice.

The talk will discuss therapies to improve long-term outcomes for post-myocardial infarction patients and quick nursing intervention tools.

Vascular Disease primary and secondary prevention risk detection.  Providing attendees with simple, quick nursing intervention tools.  Your knowledge and influence will help an individual and their family understand the need to improve their cardiovascular risk.

Olympic Torch Funds Raised Will Support Healthy Heart Schools' Program
With greater success comes greater responsibility and for Heart Niagara it is the development of a sustainable funding model for the Healthy Heart Schools' Program.  Sustainability will help to insure all future Niagara adolescents have the same access to early awareness and assessment procedures that may identify their premature risk of future chronic disease.
