FISA Masters World Rowing Regatta

From September 2nd-5th 2010, the St. Catharines Royal Canadian Henley Course will host the 37th FISA World Rowing Masters Championships. The Niagara Sport Commission is working closely with the FISA Local Organizing Committee to prepare for over 3000 competitors from domestic and international rowing clubs who are expected to attend.

Participants will be traveling to St. Catharines to race in this four day competition and partake in an assortment of Regatta activities, including the opening ceremonies on September 2nd and the Masters Party on September 4th.

Each race is 1000 metres in length and will end at the traditional grandstand finish line. There will be a variety of vendors and entertainment located on Henley Island at the race mid-way point.

No Regatta can be successful without a pool of dedicated volunteers. Please visit the 2010 FISA World Rowing Masters Regatta website for more information about the event and/or to register as a volunteer (no experience required - training will be provided).

Annual Ringette Tournament a Big Success

On the weekend of March 5-7th, Niagara Falls hosted their 5th Annual Ringette Tournament at all the local arenas. We proudly welcomed 100 teams from all over Ontario and Quebec. There were players ranging from ages 4 to 40 and abilities from beginner to A level. Some of the games were very fast and exciting!

Our local teams had a great weekend at this event as well. The Brock University Open B and Niagara Belle teams took gold in their respective divisions. The Tween team took silver and the younger girls in Bunny and Novice took the bronze. We are very proud of the efforts of all of the girls!
The Niagara Sport Commission will be conducting an economic impact assessment of the event.

We invite you to discover ringette at an arena near you. For information, call Mike at 357-3391 or Karen at 357-3386.
