Niagara Sport Commission Update |
|
The Niagara Sport Commission is continuously committed to creating linkages within the community and providing support to local sport. In the past few months we have met with upwards of 30 local sport organizations and made presentations to another 20 local groups. From these connections, we hope to bring your needs and requests to the forefront and assist you in these areas to the best of our abilities.
In the past month we have also welcomed nine interns and volunteers to help bolster our staff and get a head start on our various initiatives.
Among these initiatives is the development of an online registration system for local sport clubs, a facility inventory which will profile all facilities available for use by sport organizations and events, a complete list of funding and grant opportunities for individuals and sport organizations, strategies around volunteer recruitment, training, and retention for organizations and events. We are also working with numerous sport organizations on a one-on-one basis around supporting their organizations and upcoming events.

| With five teams, 20 coaches and over 100 players, Niagara Flag Rugby's persident is calling the inaugural season a success.
The league was created early last spring when the Niagara-on-the-Lake Crushers broke away from Rugby Ontario in a move to increase organizations and decrease costs.
Registration costs are $60 for the season, approximately half the cost of Rugby Ontario's dues. The new league emphasizes skill-building and teamwork, rather than competitiveness.
Teams in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Grimsby, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne, and St. Catharines offer programs for boys and girls aged 5 to 15.

It is important for everyone to remember that Olympic athletes start somewhere - The many sport and recreation programs available in our local community are essential to the development of the next generation of Canada's elite athletes. Golf Tips from Legends on the Niagara Golf Academy |
|
During the winter months it is important to keep the golf muscles active and toned by taking a few swings every day. If you can use a weighted club to perform the swings you will be ready to go when the snow finally melts.
Try 20 swings twice a day to keep your golf swing in shape over the winter or better still, get out to an indoor range and hit some balls to maintain your hand eye coordination as well.
More tips will follow in upcoming newsletters |
