Introducing Scott McRoberts - Niagara Sport Commission's Director

Scott Head Shot 3

We are happy to announce the arrival of Scott McRoberts, the Director of the Niagara Sport Commission.  Scott returns back to his university roots from San Francisco, California where he has spent the last seven years since graduating from Brock University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Sport Management.

Scott received his Masters degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco where he also taught from 2007-2009. During this time, Scott founded two consulting companies - one surrounding tennis within the community, while the other serves as an international sport management firm specializing in major sport event and community planning.

In the last five years, Scott has worked in executive roles with various not-for-profits, including NCAA March Madness, Professional Tennis Tour, Stanford University, and ING. Scott also served as Chief Operating Officer for the 2008 International Children's Games. During this tenure, Scott co-founded the San Francisco Sport Council and spent three years working with San Francisco City Hall.

Scott's ties remained close with Brock University while in California. He worked closely with the sport management professors on various studies. Scott has supervised over 30 interns from Brock, who have come to California to work with him on different events. "It was great having them out there (California), experiencing a different side of the industry. I was able to remain tuned to what was going on in the Niagara Region as well!" said Scott.

After the 40 hour plus drive from California in November, Scott is settling in with his wife Kate and their new dog Lambeau. "It is nice to come back to the area where you started. Brock gave me a great foundation and feel for the industry and I look forward to being back and providing my expertise."

Scott has been busy in his first days at the Commission getting out into the community, meeting various people, and getting a feel for what is  needed in Niagara. "Niagara continues to be a very vibrant community, full of people that want to work, to take what we have and continue to build towards a stronger, healthier Niagara. We have a great opportunity for the Region to be known as a sports destination and we are already on our way with the announcement of our Pan-Am games".

 Niagara proves we BELIEVE

Olympic Torch The Olympic Spirit rang loud and clear as the torch made its way through the region - thousands of Niagara's residents lined the streets and filled celebration venues across the region.

The torch was met with overwhelming support as it entered Niagara Region. Turnout along the route exceeded expectations of organizers, torchbearers, and residents alike. The torch celebration was the biggest party in St. Catharines in some time.

Thousands of residents gathered along the Torch Relay Route and at the Niagara Parks Table Rock parking area to welcome the torch in Niagara Falls. "Be the change you want to see" was the message driven home at this event; encouraging everyone to be inspired and to live their dreams.

Welland's celebrations saw over 2500 supporters where they celebrated their multicultural heritage hosted in both official languages. Congratulations to Brock University's Cheerleading team and Miss Dar's Dance Studio who both won prizes for their demonstrations of support.

"The spirit, the unity of the community, everybody embracing that moment and forgetting all their worries, all the politics, everything going on, it was just a moment where everybody was excited about the same thing." - Kimberly Hundertmark
