 Hurricane Ike Communications

All Galveston clergy and their families are off the island and safe.  Episcopal Church properties have been secured as well as possible in preparation for Hurricane Ike.  Trinity Verger Paul Grizzle is in the Emergency Operations Center at the San Luis Hotel and will give me reports tomorrow after the storm passes and he is able to go out.

Bishop Wimberly and I spoke a few minutes ago.  He asked that I convey to you that we are all in his concern and prayers.  He also wanted to reassure everyone that the diocese is ready to implement emergency response plans.

Communication with one another will be important as we go through this storm and support one another in the days ahead.  Here are a couple of options:

*  As long as mobile phone service is in operation, if you need to talk with me, use my mobile number: 832-576-9019.

*  If you would like to post a report, ask a question, or make a request for others to read, go to www.e-piphanies.com and use the "post a comment" feature.  Gay and I will monitor it regularly throughout the crisis.

*  We will do our best to post helpful information on Trinity's website www.trinitygalv.org.  If you have anything that should be included, please send it to me, using my email address:  rpogue@trinitygalv.org.

Finally, the most important form of communication is that which we have with the Almighty!  We are people of prayer.  Here are a couple of prayers from the Book of Common Prayer for starters:

For Quiet Confidence

O God of peace, who hast taught us that in returning and
rest we shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be
our strength: By the might of thy Spirit lift us, we pray thee,
to thy presence, where we may be still and know that thou
art God; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

For Protection

Assist us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications and
prayers, and dispose the way of thy servants towards the
attainment of everlasting salvation; that, among all the
changes and chances of this mortal life, they may ever be
defended by thy gracious and ready help; through Jesus
Christ our Lord.  Amen.

For those we Love

Almighty God, we entrust all who are dear to us to thy
never failing care and love, for this life and the life to come,
knowing that thou art doing for them better things than we
can desire or pray for; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

God bless us all.

Faithfully yours,
Ron Sig Short
