Isaiah 51:1-6

Thus says the Lord:
"Listen to me, you that pursue righteousness,
    you that seek the LORD.
Look to the rock from which you were hewn,
and to the quarry from which you were dug."

I thought of the enormous granite quarry near Marble Falls, Texas when I read this passage from Isaiah.  There is an epiphany in that quarry and one that helps us connect our rock-solid faith with our ancestors in faith.  Read more at

Pogue and a team of great adult parishioners.  More information will be provided in the coming weeks.  If you or a member of your household are called to consider Confirmation, please contact the parish office and leave a message for Fr. Pogue, who respond when he returns from vacation.

The Adult Sunday School Class
The Adult Sunday School Class, meeting in Rosenberg Parlor on Sundays at 9:15 a.m., is  studying the Sunday scriptures throughout the summer months.  Class leadership will be shared by members.

Stewardship of Environment

Genesis 1:31
"God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good."

Let's help God keep it that way!

Open, O Lord, the eyes of all people to behold thy gracious hand in all thy works, that, rejoicing in thy whole creation, they may honor thee with their substance, and be faithful stewards of thy bounty.

Parish Directory Online
Parish Secretary Melissa McWilliams is busy making preparations to launch a new online parish directory.  Members will be able to access it in a password protected section of www.trinitygalv.org in the next few weeks.  Each member's record will contain basic contact information, including email address that can be clicked to send a message, a map to help you find the person's residence, and a photograph.  If you have a favorite photo you would like to be used on your record, please email it to Melissa McWilliamsor bring a copy to the parish office for her to scan.  Or, look for one of our photographers after worship on Sunday morning.  We want photos of individuals as well as group photos.  Also, if you have reason to believe your contact information is out of date, let Melissa know so she can update it before launching this new resource.  This new resource will further the Vestry's goal of improving our ability to recognize and communicate with one another in building community at Trinity.

T.Y.I. (Trinity Youth Info)  September 2008

Scripture: "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living.  But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15

As most of you know I have 8 wonderful grandchildren, so I have done a lot of coloring in recent years.  Did you know that in 1903 the company of Binney and Smith produced the first of 8 Crayola crayons?  These were the choices back then:  Black, blue, brown, green, orange, red, violet, and yellow.  Over the years many more colors were introduced.  There are now 120 colors.  Some of my favorite colors are Jazzberry Jam, Fuzzy Wuzzy Brown and Mango Tango.  Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Magic Mint, Teal Blue, Raw Umber, Mulberry.  Don't worry though; each retired color ends up in the Crayola Hall of Fame in Easton, PA.

Over the years, Binney and Smith felt like they had to offer more and more choices to their customers.  I am sure that some choices were good and some were bad.  Way back in Joshua's time, the people had some choices to make.  Joshua knew that there was only one choice to make.  His words are great:  "Choose who you will, but as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord."  We will choose God!

As this school begins this year, there are a lot of choices that you will make as parents.  There will be so many great things for your youth to participate in at Trinity Church- service projects, worship, Sunday night activities. Fr. Pogue has just hired a part time youth coordinator, Keaton Richter, who has some great ideas (see more about him below).  I hope you will make Joshua's words, your words!

A PLACE OF WELCOME

The French word, foyer, means a hearth or fireside, suggesting a small group, relaxed, open, and accepting to one another. We had four wonderful Foyers Groups during the past year. They all came together on June 1 for hors d'oerves and an outing in Galveston Harbor on Seagull II. New Foyers Groups will start up again at Trinity in September and you'll want to be involved.

These casual groups of six to ten randomly-selected people (couples and singles) will meet once a month or so for an informal dinner and conversation from October until June. They typically meet in people's homes; however, other arrangements can be made. Foyers groups are a fine way to join a small group of other church members that you would not otherwise have the opportunity to know and enjoy an occasional evening or afternoon of fellowship. Typically these are "potluck" suppers, but the emphasis is on the friendship, rather than on the food.

Please complete one of the blue sign-up forms, which you will find in your Sunday worship leaflet, or contact the Parish Office if you are interested in participating in this wonderful fellowship opportunity.  We will have a meeting of all who have signed up following the principal service on September 14 to get started.

Trinity people have so much to
offer, and Foyers Groups provide a great opportunity to find out just how much as we build relationships.  Jon and Suzette Schultz have graciously agreed to serve as coordinators for Foyers again in the coming year.
