One of our longtime communicants celebrated her 93rd birthday last week. That doesn't happen very often. (Hint: her horse came inside to the party for cake.) Read more ate-piphanies.com .
I invite your comments.
I'll see you in church!

The Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost August 17, 2008
Collect Almighty God, you have given your only Son to be
for us a sacrifice for sin, and also an example of godly life: Give us
grace to receive thankfully the fruits of his redeeming work, and to
follow daily in the blessed steps of his most holy life; through Jesus
Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Now is the time to join the choir for the fall season!
Rehearsals for the Senior Choir begin on Thursday August 21 at 7:30 with an alternate rehearsal on Sunday August 24 at 9 A.M. The choir will sing their first service on the 24th. Volunteers are needed in all sections-you need only to be able to match pitches and learn rhythms, etc.; it is not necessary to be a sight-reader to sing in the choir. Please contact the church office and leave your name and contact information or speak directly to the Director of Music or a member of the choir.
A Call to Service Are you called to serve on the Vestry or as a Delegate to Diocesan Council? Do you know someone who may be open to such a call to service? In either case, please contact Senior Warden Susan Duif (suduif@sbcglobal.net or (409) 741-2218) before August 31 to express your interest or recommendation. She will share the information with the Vestry Nominating Committee.
An Invitation from the ECW The Trinity ECW invites you to an evening of fun and fashion on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. at Gaido's Pelican Club. There will be a cash bar at 6:30. Jackets are required for gentlemen. The Atrium Boutique will present travel fashions based on a "One Suitcase Travel Wardrobe". Marchi Travel will provide vacation information and we will have a great meal at Gaido's. The tickets are $20.00 each and may be purchased before and after church from an ECW member or at the Atrium Boutique or Marchi Travel. There will be lots of door prizes. We ask that you bring a non-perishable food item for St. Vincent's House the evening of the event.
Pick the Flowers The E-Team (yes that "E" stands for Evangelism) is trying to help us identify our guests as they enter the church for Sunday services by giving them a flower tied up with a ribbon. If you see a person with a flower, please introduce yourself and welcome them to our community of faith. And if you are that person holding the flower, please gather with us after the service and help us get to know you.
Choir on Vacation The
Choir is on its Summer Vacation. Take a moment to let our choristers
know how much their ministry means to us and wish them a safe and
restful vacation. They will return in September.
Children's Christian Formation
During July and August, we will have Veggie Tales Hour at the usual Sunday School time, 10:15 a.m.. Enjoy popcorn, goldfish and juice spending time with Larry the Cucumber, Junior the Asparagus and Bob the Tomato. We will need one or two parents each Sunday to sit with the children during the movie. Diocesan policy requires us to have two-deep leadership in activities with children. The French word, foyer, means a hearth or fireside, suggesting a small group, relaxed, open, and accepting to one another. We had four wonderful Foyers Groups during the past year. They all came together on June 1 for hors d'oerves and an outing in Galveston Harbor on Seagull II. New Foyers Groups will start up again at Trinity in September and you'll want to be involved.
These casual groups of six to ten randomly-selected people (couples and singles) will meet once a month or so for an informal dinner and conversation from October until June. They typically meet in people's homes; however, other arrangements can be made. Foyers groups are a fine way to join a small group of other church members that you would not otherwise have the opportunity to know and enjoy an occasional evening or afternoon of fellowship. Typically these are "potluck" suppers, but the emphasis is on the friendship, rather than on the food.
Please complete one of the blue sign-up forms, which you will find in your Sunday worship leaflet, or contact the Parish Office if you are interested in participating in this wonderful fellowship opportunity. We will have a meeting of all who have signed up following the principal service on September 14 to get started.
Trinity people have so much to offer, and Foyers Groups provide a great opportunity to find out just how much as we build relationships. Jon and Suzette Schultz have graciously agreed to serve as coordinators for Foyers again in the coming year.
Rally Day is September 7 Our annual Rally Day, always the first Sunday after Labor Day, will be on September 7 this year. It is a time for everyone to come back to worship and Sunday School after the summer vacation season is over. It is also a great time to invite people who have moved into our community during the summer to experience our parish family. A special feature of our Rally Day observance is the investiture and reaffirmation of Acolytes. All our present Acolytes will be vested and participate in the service. Newly trained Acolytes will be commissioned by the Rector and given their vestments. Watch for additional details of our 2008 Rally Day. In the meantime, mark your calendars and start contacting those friends you are going to invite.
Parish Directory Online
Parish Secretary Melissa McWilliams is busy making preparations to launch a new online parish directory. Members will be able to access it in a password protected section of www.trinitygalv.org in the next few weeks. Each member's record will contain basic contact information, including email address that can be clicked to send a message, a map to help you find the person's residence, and a photograph. If you have a favorite photo you would like to be used on your record, please email it to Melissa McWilliamsor bring a copy to the parish office for her to scan. Or, look for one of our photographers after worship on Sunday morning. We want photos of individuals as well as group photos. Also, if you have reason to believe your contact information is out of date, let Melissa know so she can update it before launching this new resource. This new resource will further the Vestry's goal of improving our ability to recognize and communicate with one another in building community at Trinity.
