Christmas at Trinity Church

Trinity Episcopal Church
January 9, 2008

Greetings!

Galveston Island is at the heart of the heritage of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.  The Reverend Benjamin Eaton arrived here on January 13, 1841 when Texas was an independent republic and the first foreign mission field of the Episcopal Church.  He set right to work proclaiming the message of Christ and building up his Church.

The first Bishop of Texas was elected at a Diocesan Convention held on this island in 1859.   Following his consecration, The Right Reverend Alexander Gregg of Cheraw, South Carolina brought his family to Texas.  The bishop and his family came directly to Galveston Island and it was here that he performed his first duties as a bishop.

Matthew Stanford and the kids from St. Vincent's Episcopal House have produced a video to convey the message of the Episcopal Community in Galveston.  Watch the video, One Church, with our welcome to our fellow Episcopalians from the diocese as we prepare for the 159th Council to be held at Moody Gardens Convention Center February 15 and 16.
