Catalyze Update October 24, 2007
Greetings!

Thank you again for joining the Catalyze community.

I know it's only been a week since my last update, but I wanted to send out an announcement about a Catalyze webcast that we just scheduled for next Monday, October 29th at 4pm Eastern/1pm Pacific.

We are very pleased to have Keith Instone, information architect and usability PIONEER, as our webcast speaker this month.  Keith will be talking about the User Experience Network (UXNet) and how that community complements the Catalyze community.  Keith has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share, and it will be interesting to hear his take on what he is doing with the User Experience Network.

So, please mark your calendars for next Monday, and look for the banner on the homepage or sign up at this link.
Check Out This Great Content

Here is a sampling of recently added content in our Resources, Blogs and Discussion Forum areas.  And don't forget to check out the Catalyze Blog Feed Room for even more blogs.

Read this article on Design Thinking by Elle Yaven.  Elle will be speaking at our January 2008 webcast so this is a good preview of things to come.

Many organizations are using agile approaches for their software development projects. Since agile does not focus on written requirements, business analysts are often excluded from the team.  Read how BAs can add value in this article from Barb Carkenord of B2T Training.

Jared Spool Podcast on "The Dawning of the Age of Experience"
Here is a podcast of Jared Spool's presentation from dConstruct 2007 (Thursday, October 11, 2007).

In the VirtualHosting blog, Jessica Hupp has recently compiled a list of the 100 top blogs in the "User-Centered" space.  Some of these are part of the Catalyze Blog Feed Room and we will be updating our automatic feeds with some of the other blogs in the near future.

And remember, all members can post content to the Resources section.  If you have a favorite article or link that you would like to share with the community, please upload it to Catalyze to the Members Upload folder.

World Usability Day - November 9th
Catalyze is Seeking a Webcast Speaker
Are you a usability expert in the Healthcare field?  Would you like to share your experiences with the Catalyze community?

The theme of this year's celebration of World Usability Day is usability in healthcare.  Catalyze is a sponsor of World Usability Day and we want to hold our November webcast on World Usability Day.

We are still looking for someone to present in our November 9th webcast around the topic of usability in healthcare.  If you are interested or know of someone who would be a great speaker, have them contact me at thumbarger@mycatalyze.org

(Also contact me if you are interested in presenting at any future webcast.  We will be conducting monthly webcasts on a variety of topics and are interested in lining up speakers)
Catalyze LinkedIn and Facebook Groups (Again)
Expand your Network with LinkedIn and Facebook
LinkedIn is the leading business and professional networking site with over 12 million members.  Since many Catalyze members are also members of LinkedIn, we have created a special LinkedIn group for Catalyze members to leverage this connection.

When you join the Catalyze group, you will get a Catalyze group logo in your profile and you will be able to search for other group members.

All members are automatically pre-approved for the LinkedIn Catalyze group - simply click this link to confirm your membership in the LinkedIn Catalyze group.  (note, you need to use the same email address used to join Catalyze or you will be added to the pending approval list which generally clears in less than 24 hours).

Facebook is not just for college students any more and the fastest growing segments are the 25-35 and the 35+ age groups.  Read this blog post for more background info on Facebook.  The Catalyze Facebook Group is an open group - anyone can join and invite others to join and anyone can see the group information, the discussion board, the wall, videos, photos, and posted items.
Thank you again for helping make Catalyze the number one destination community for business analysts and usability professionals.

Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Tom Humbarger, Community Manager
