The International Equine Conference was a huge success and very well attended. Speakers had impressive expertise and data in medicine, veterinary medicine, law, public policy, humane advocacy, history, politics, zoology, ecology and more!
A heartfelt thanks to the Equine Welfare Alliance, the Animal Law Coalition, Dr. Ann Marini, and everyone for putting together such an incredible event packed with so many strong presenters.

Our presentation was very well received and we had a lot of positive feedback for our work. Also appreciated was our new film A Horse's Nightmare, released for the first time at the conference. To be used to gain support for legislative efforts banning horse slaughter and to raise further awareness about the issue, the film is a short 7 minutes / 7seconds. A Horse's Nightmare can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvWBtoQ3C8E
Included in Animals' Angels presentation on the cruelty for horses in the pipeline was the role of the EU and European consumers (please also read our April 2010 newsletter/press release, Horse Slaughter Bombshell in Belgium and Holland).
Later strategy discussions focused on developing an anti horse slaughter campaign targeting consumers and distributors overseas. Everyone seemed to agree that educating the European market was more important than ever.
Animals' Angels wasted no time and has already met with a European-based organization with several overseas offices. The potential for future cooperation with a cross-Atlantic campaign looks promising.
Many, many thanks to the incredible people who made the conference possible. The mark of a truly successful conference like this one is that we achieve new successes and new directions, with enhanced information and allies, networks that make us stronger and liaisons that create real impact. This conference has helped expand efforts across the Atlantic and empowered us to be increasingly effective in our fight against horse slaughter.
