BOOK REVIEW Mycelium Running Mycelium Running is a manual for the mycological rescue of the planet. That's right: growing more mushrooms may be the best thing we can do to save the environment, and in this groundbreaking text from mushroom expert Paul Stamets, you'll find out how.
The basic science goes like this: Microscopic cells called "mycelium"--the fruit of which are mushrooms--recycle carbon, nitrogen, and other essential elements as they break down plant and animal debris in the creation of rich new soil. What Stamets has discovered is that we can capitalize on mycelium's digestive power and target it to decompose toxic wastes and pollutants (mycoremediation), catch and reduce silt from streambeds and pathogens from agricultural watersheds (mycofiltration), control insect populations (mycopesticides), and generally enhance the health of our forests and gardens (mycoforestry and myco-gardening).
In this comprehensive guide, you'll find chapters detailing each of these four exciting branches of what Stamets has coined "mycorestoration," as well as chapters on the medicinal and nutritional properties of mushrooms, inoculation methods, log and stump culture, and species selection for various environmental purposes. Heavily referenced and beautifully illustrated, this book is destined to be a classic reference for bemushroomed generations to come. |

Greetings!
I am so happy to announce I am finally coming home. I hear it is finally hot in Calgary, but I am sure I will be cooling off from this Texas heat. I have a five day drive ahead of me and will be coming up through Regina. Cody will fly in and drive the rest of the way back with us. Any thoughts on Regina?
I'm excited to also announce The Medicinal Mushroom Symposium, brought to you by The Light Cellar. I remember the very first time I met Malcolm. I had just arrived back from Texas in 2009 and was putting on my very first event with David Wolfe. Cody and I had invited The Light Cellar to participate in our event. Malcolm came down to meet me and brought me my very first Reishi mushroom. It was one of the sweetest gift I have ever received. Now here we are in 2012, I still have my Reishi mushroom from Malcolm and now the Light Cellar is hosting there very own symposium with David Wolfe, Terry Willard and others.

THE RAW FOOD TRUCKER Dave Conrardy @ JOH on Thursday, August 30,2012 @ 6:30 PM Dave Conrardy is affectionately referred to, as, Dave, "the Raw Food Trucker" in health and nutrition circles. He literally redefined his life during the process of achieving a huge weight loss. During this time, his body rid itself of stage 1 cancer, diabetes, acid reflux disease and a number of other ailments, including kidney problems. Incredibly, he was also able to wean himself off, all but one, of the 19 prescription medications he had been taking, and off of another 6 over the counter medications. When Dave was diagnosed with chronic kidney problems, his doctor said, "Dave, Your kidneys are leaking proteins into your blood stream. This is not reversible. There is no turning back. It's going to be all down hill from here on." The dietary shift in Dave's life came while he was driving big rig trucks across the United States. He was addicted to the Standard American Diet,"SAD", dominated by high sugar, high fat, processed foods. Dave was eating 3 lb. of red meat a day! He was morbidly obese, weighing 430 pounds. The downward spiral had begun. He could literally feel life draining from his body. Long time friends feared they would never see him alive again. It was at that time that he met Dave and Youdit Whiting, who were driving students of his in the trucking industry. Dave shared his fears with them, regarding his rapid decline and impending death. The couple encouraged him to change his lifestyle, and said that by doing so, he could reverse maney of his ailments and become healthy again. The Whitings recommended several books, beginning with David Wolfe's Sun Food Success Diet System. Literally overnight, after reading the book, Dave committed to a raw food lifestyle for the next 90 days. and in the process of studying this book, learned how to have the "Best Day Ever"...every day. Come learn Dave's exciting story and testimonies. I can't wait to meet Dave. Tickets are $31. Please call the store to register. 403-254-5991 |
