The city of Calgary still has many old waterlines coming into your homes. Cast Iron, some lead, and some copper also galvanized steel. Many of these pipes are corroding and releasing all kinds of chemicals into the water. According to research approximately 150,000 homes are supplied with water having contact with lead water pipes.

Everyday Children are taking baths and drink the water that flows into their homes through the waterlines that are composed from these toxic materials.

Never mind the Chlorine that has devastating effects on all of our health.

David Wolfe recently said in his workshop in Calgary: "A whole house filter is not just recommended but essential. Taking a shower with chlorinated water is like taking a shower in a gas chamber"

Our newsletter has talked about the hidden dangers in your shower and we provided information about all the toxic by-products of Chlorine. Such as, Chlorine, Animal Waste, Sewage, Trihalomethanes, Pharmaceuticals, Herbicides, Pesticides to name a few of the waterborne, health hazards; some of which are Carcinogens.

I encourage you all to learn more about this amazing filter. I can tell you as a chef and my hands in the water constantly, I noticed a huge improvement in just 3 days!

Fall is a great time to start a juice cleanse!!

Greetings!

What a beautiful fall we are having. I can not believe it has not snowed yet. I just know as I write this it will snow! I am enjoying all the fall bounty and loving teaching my daughter all about foods. She hears me all the time say that I am cooking and making something and she is so readily wanting to help. She got up one morning and wanted Cody to tie her blanket around her so she would have an apron. She says mom I am a "cooker maker". LOL.

I have been having fun in the kitchen with her and we have been working on new recipes, specifically nut free and grain free recipes. We made some yummy pumpkin muffins with coconut flour and some nut free bliss balls and a really yummy new breakfast cereal that I will share today.

Hot Breakfast Cereal

adapted by Wheatbelly

This is such a  yummy breakfast treat. I adapted the recipe from Wheatbelly and added my own spin too it!

Hot Breakfast Cereal

1/2 cup golden flax seed, ground ( golden taste the best)
1/4 cup coconut, shredded
1/4 cup ground nuts fine ( I used pecan and almonds) or ground sunflower seeds or chopped pumpkin seeds
Stevia ( just a pinch)
vanilla ( a pinch)
cinnamon and nutmeg
1/2 raw milk (warm it up)
Berries, fresh or dried

Mix all together and enjoy! I have used raw goat milk, and coconut milk and they both taste delicious. With the coconut milk, I blend a young thai coconut with the meat until creamy. I boil some water and add a little to my 1/2 cup coconut milk to warm up the milk. You can also half the flax seeds and add psyllium husk or ground up sunflower seeds.

You can leave the nuts out all together and just add sunflower seeds. Stir in pumpkin seeds, goji berries or fresh fruit.  Enjoy!!

CANDY BUY BACK
Turn Candy into Prizes and Apples for Charity

Halloween Buy Back
Tuesday Nov 1st 2011, between 4:30 - 7:30pm, bring your excess Halloween candy to The Evans Centre for Dental Health & Wellness.  All kids will receive a cool L.E.D. 'FireFly' Toothbrush.  For every pound of candy you bring in, you'll receive $1 cash and 1 entry into a draw for an ipod nano!  The more sweets you bring in, the more cash and entries you'll receive!  Win great door prizes from our health and family focused sponsors. You could win an ipod or a New VitaMix Blender!

Research has identified many health and dental related problems caused by excessive and prolonged consumption of sugars, colour and high fructose corn syrup. The Candy Buy-Back provides a fun option for avoiding these problems.  Tell your friends and start a healthy tradition this year.  Why not give out some invitations along with treats at the door to your trick-or-treaters?  Stop by the Evans Centre for a stack of handouts you can use!  See you at the Candy Buy-Back, and remember to wear your costumes!

Hey! That's a better idea. Although we will certainly be throwing the collected candy in the garbage again this year (it isn't really food, just read the ingredients ... yikes!), we are going to donate fresh apples to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank.
For every pound of Halloween candy we collect and toss, we'll donate a pound of fresh apples to the Food Bank

I think it's absolutely wonderful that Dr. Evans is paying to buy kids candy and also donating apples to charity. Don't let your kids indulge in high fructose corn syrup, genetically modified wheat and sugar coated, chemical-laden processed candies. The fall should be about harvest time and bounty with fresh produce, hiking and nature walks. How did our society get from nature to walking to people's home asking for toxic processed junk that maliciously harms our children's immune system? I encourage you to create new healthier traditions that are centered around health and family.
