Greetings!

I have exciting news. We had 40 people at our Free Raw Food Intro Class on Sunday and all my classes are full until June. We will have lots going on in May and the first of June. We are so excited to have an Exclusive Raw Food Potluck with Brendan Brazier and hosting Natasha Kyssa for a book signing and potluck on August 9 for her new book The Simply Raw Living Foods Detox Manual.

We are going to have a PARTY at our next raw food potluck, May 6 as this will be my last eating potluck before my 92 day Juice Feast (more about this in the May Update) and my trip to Texas for the whole summer. So come see us. We have LOTS of new products in and the largest raw food book rental in Calgary!

Coconut BlissCOCONUT BLISS
Okay, so I have secretly been telling people about this amazing ice cream that we have been bringing back from Spokane. Yummy!! We have a very limited quantity of this delicious all organic coconut ice cream. I thought to be fair I should share with those who have not been in for awhile. No Dairy, No Soy, No Gluten and No Sugar. This taste way better than cow dairy ice cream. This will not last, I promise and you can only buy at JOH.
BananaFruit the Hybrid Food

Many people ask me about fruit in the raw food diet and I get so many questions about FRUIT. Well, here is my response: The Hippocrates Institute, Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center, Creative Health Institute and Living Foods Institute are all live foods healing centers, which have healed people from major catastrophic diseases. These healing centers first recommendation is to get off all fruits and sugars.

Gabriel Cousens states in his book, Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine, "It is absolutely essential to eliminate these(fruit) from the diet in order to restore the biological terrain to normal and to decrease and eliminate the mycosis that most people have. Most people have fungus, candida or yeast in their body. Fruit, which is hybridized is not in it's natural state. The sugars in fruit are much higher than they were thousands of years ago and our bodies are not designed to deal with these man made sugars.

Dr. Jim Carey writes about the detriments of a high raw fruit diet in his blog: The Dirty Little Secret of the Raw Food Movement . Remember, seedless fruits like watermelon, grapes, bananas are fake foods that really feed fungus in the body as these are not natural foods, they are man made foods, as all natural fruits have seeds. So we recommend fruit in moderation. Click the bananas to get a more in depth view by Brian Clement on Scary Sweets.

Rebecca HeonGREEN SMOOTHIE TESTIMONY
DAILY GLASS OF LIFE & SUNSHINE

I am Rebecca from Calgary, Canada, and am excited to share my experiences with the 14 Day Green Smoothie Challenge.  I will be celebrating my 50th birthday this June and am very enthusiastic about ensuring I am in optimal health for my next 50 years!

Throughout my adult life I have battled anorexia and bulimia and recently decided ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!  I have decided to gain control of my life by making healthy lifestyle choices.  I love to read so have been doing research on things like the raw food diet and am incorporating more raw foods into my meal plan.  My goal is also to replace all western medications and heal myself physically, mentally and emotionally by having an optimal diet and taking supplements and herbs in addition to healthy exercise, prayer/meditation and positive thinking.

I heard about the challenge through a newsletter I receive from a local family run health food store, Journey of Health.  I started on March 16 so went to the grocery store and bought some romaine lettuce and bananas.  Using my 23-year-old food processor I had my first green smoothie made with the romaine (non-organic) 3 bananas and water.  I was not very impressed and thought there was no way I could do this for 14 days. My smoothie was a pale green color and rather void of taste.

However, the wonderful Tonya Dahl from Journey of Health hosted a complimentary green smoothie night on St. Patrick's Day and there I got to witness the making of and taste a REAL green smoothie!  It was DIVINE!  Tonya used her Vitamix and high quality organic produce and a few special ingredients to make a variety of smoothies.   They were rich in color and tasted spectacular.  Immediately after the class I went and bought organic romaine, kale, spinach, cilantro, parsley and tomatoes, bananas and pineapples.  The next morning I could hardly wait to make my second smoothie and what a difference!  Later that day I decided to make another investment in my health and ordered myself a Vitamix.  It is now my most treasured small appliance!  So now I am on Day 18 of my 14-Day challenge.  WHY?  Because I feel FANTASTIC!  I feel peaceful, have more energy; I crave things like cucumber and broccoli instead of sweets; my bowels are functioning better and I have had compliments on my glowing skin.  My green smoothie is my daily glass of life, light and sunshine.  It is a fresh and welcoming way to start my day.  I am enjoying the different recipes I receive by email and am sharing my experiences now with my family and friends. I really encourage people to give this a try...take a step toward improving your vitality and enhancing your health.  Think of it as a gift to yourself!
Blessings and Good Health!
Rebecca

PS Many of you will be receiving an invite from me to take the Green Smoothie Challenge and I really encourage you to give this a try...take a step toward improving your vitality and enhancing your health.  Think of it as a gift to yourself!  To my Calgary friends, I also encourage you to visit Journey of Health in Midnapore.

Niacin
GOT DEPRESSION? CHOLESTEROL? ARTHRITIS?
As you have understood in this article we will discuss niacin food sources. Probably not many people know about niacin food sources and niacin supplements. In this article, we will try to provide as much information about vitamin B3 as possible.

What is niacin? Niacin is also known as vitamin B3 and is the best helper for lowering cholesterol. But, that isn't the only disease that needs niacin to be cured. The list of niacin benefits is very large starting with depressions and continuing with diabetes, arthritis, and other disorders.
Now let's talk more seriously about the benefits of niacin for our bodies. There are three forms of niacin and all of these forms influence our bodies differently. These three forms are: niacinamide, nicotinic acid, and inositol hexaniacinate.
Niacin helps control cholesterol. Recent studies have shown that Vitamin B3 not only helps to reduce LDL, but it also increases HDL.

Niacin helps to combat Raynauld's disease and some other circulatory problems. Niacin releases the arteries and the veins, thereby improving your circulation. For the people suffering from Raynauld's disease the ability of vitamin B3 to improve blood pressure may counter the main sources of numbness in your hands and your feet.

Niacin helps if you have depression. Vitamin B3 is very useful in treating depressions and such feelings of anxiety or panic. That is why some vitamin B complexes have niacin for avoiding depression.
Niacin works to relieve arthritis as well. The force of niacinamide may help to calm down the pain associated with arthritis. The complex of treatment lasts for ten months but the results will impress you.

And the last disease that we are going to mention in this article is diabetes. If you take niacinamide at the beginning of the disease, then you may avoid some major complications. Food and supplements are considered to be niacin sources. With a niacin supplement, you can take either capsules or tablets.
Everything that we do or use has its measure. Vitamin B3 also has a measure that should be kept for excellent health. What problems can we have if we have too little of niacin?

Having a deficiency of the vitamin can cause some skin disorders when some patches of skin become dry or pellagra. Other problems may be headaches, loss of appetite, depression, and memory loss.
Sea Lettuce
SEA VEGETABLES
Why would anyone want to eat sea vegetables? Because they offer the broadest range of minerals of any food, containing virtually all the minerals found in the ocean-the same minerals that are found in human blood. Sea vegetables are an excellent source of iodine and vitamin K, a very good source of the B-vitamin folate, and magnesium, and a good source of iron and calcium, and the B-vitamins riboflavin and pantothenic acid. In addition, sea vegetables contain good amounts of lignans, plant compounds with cancer-protective properties.

Lignans, phytonutrients found in sea vegetables, have been shown to inhibit angiogenesis, or blood cell growth, the process through which fast-growing tumors not only gain extra nourishment, but send cancer cells out in the bloodstream to establish secondary tumors or metastases in other areas of the body. In addition, lignans have been credited with inhibiting estrogen synthesis in fat cells as effectively as some of the drugs used in cancer chemotherapy. In postmenopausal women, fat tissue is a primary site where estrogen is synthesized, and high levels of certain estrogen metabolites (the 4OH and 16OH metabolites) are considered a significant risk factor for breast cancer.
In addition to lignans, sea vegetables are a very good source of the B-vitamin folic acid. Studies have shown that diets high in folate-rich foods are associated with a significantly reduced risk for colon cancer.

Sea vegetables, especially kelp, are nature's richest sources of iodine, which as a component of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), is essential to human life. The thyroid gland adds iodine to the amino acid tyrosine to create these hormones. Without sufficient iodine, your body cannot synthesize them. Because these thyroid hormones regulate metabolism in every cell of the body and play a role in virtually all physiological functions, an iodine deficiency can have a devastating impact on your health and well-being. A common sign of thyroid deficiency is an enlarged thyroid gland, commonly called a goiter. Goiters are estimated to affect 200 million people worldwide, and in all but 4% of these cases, the cause is iodine deficiency.

Sea vegetables, often called seaweed, are one of Neptune's beautiful jewels, adorning the waters with life and providing us with a food that can enhance our diets, from both a culinary and nutritional perspective. Sea vegetables can be found growing both in the marine salt waters as well as in fresh water lakes and seas. They commonly grow on coral reefs or in rocky landscapes, and can grow at great depths provided that sunlight can penetrate through the water to where they reside since, like plants, they need light for their survival. Yet, sea vegetables are not plants nor animals-they are actually known as algae.

We have lots of fresh sea vegetables in stock now!!
