Psalms 105:17-19 (KJV)
17 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
Most of you will recall in the story of Joseph that he had received a dream from the Lord showing that all his older brethren would give obeisance to him. In addition, because their father showed more favor to Joseph than to them they despised their younger brother even more after hearing Joseph share his dream.
Genesis 37:8 (KJV)
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.
Time and time again I have discovered that receiving a word from the Lord brings many challenges which come to halt its ability to perform and manifest in my life. The biggest and most notable hindrance to a word from the Lord is this thing called patience. Why? It is because the delay or lengthy opposition to that word seems to imply that we possibly missed God. The longer it takes for it to come to fruition the more we are convinced that it was not a true word to start with. Yet, if we look into the Word of God we will discover that patience is a fruit of the Spirit. If that is true than why do we get so anxious about waiting? It is simply because we are more connected to this natural world which is time driven where the spirit world is timeless. We want things immediately and without delay in this world, therefore, we become very impatient.
However, it seems that faith [which is trusting in something] and waiting are soul-mates according to much of the accounts that I have read from the Word of God. Anytime a word is given I have found that it takes perseverance to stand and believe on that word until its appointed time. The difficulty is when I remain stuck in a humanistic mind-set that sees the world no different than the unbeliever would observe it naturally. In other words, if my mind does not develop in the Word of God to the point that I can stand and believe on it without wavering no matter what challenge I am opposed with; then I will easily gravitate back to my most recent assessments about how life really works based on the humanistic viewpoint that my mind is more familiar and established in. This happens because of the many years I have processed the workings of my natural world based on human logic which leaves me devoid of any spiritual truths. Therefore, this becomes my belief system and it will not accept any other view or perspective. When this happens we become unteachable and unwilling to change our views. My friends, if we do this then we will give up on the Word of God no matter how it is presented. We understand what we deeply believe in, and sad to say, many there are who believe in all the wrong things!
I can't help but add this passage found in Proverbs 18:21 to the topic we have at hand, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue;" which clearly depicts the reason of the outcome of many life issues that fall well beneath a believers privileges in God. You can't stand and say you believe something from God's Word, and turn right around and speak against it expecting to get the results it declared irregardless of what you just said. The results will always be what you most deeply believe is true in your heart. Does it not say in God's Word, "From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks?" Yes it does, and without a question mark! We must understand how important it is to hold on to the word that God has spoken unto us and not lose its influence over our life. As I have already mentioned above, faith and waiting are soul-mates joined together as life long partners.
Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Joseph had received a word from the Lord, yet he never let go of it, though its tarrying for many years tried him daily. No matter the difficulty that he faced he never gave up on the word that he had received from God. Isn't it amazing that when it comes to many humanistic world viewpoints that we have no problem accepting them simply because they are more real to us than what the Bible says? For example: we could accept death prematurely in our life just because the humanistic viewpoint says that that particular disease is fatal and there is no cure for it. On the contrary, God's Word boast in the fact that He is a God that heals all our diseases. I suppose this is exactly why a person in this condition is glad when their hope is stirred up from a sermon on healing; because, "Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God." But what happens when that person leaves that positive environment, and re-enters the realm of the medical field and its dismal diagnosis, or the disease intensifies in its painful progressions? What happens when they hear the medical specialists tell them there is really not much more that can be done but go home and get things in order and prepare to die. Therefore, because death is so accepted within our humanistic views of life and death; that these inevitable and ever present situations of life and death, tend to cause that person to let go of the Words of God and accept the worse. Why? It is because the equations of the carnal life have been calculated and recorded by this worlds standards in our hearts and minds instead of God's possibilities through faith.
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
I have really had to apply myself diligently to God's Word to cut out these wrong perspectives that I have accepted over time, in order to receive what God has promised in His Word. One thing that I am very sure of, and that is you get what you plant. I have learned that when I sow a humanistic principle into my life and accept it, it becomes a seed; and when I water it over time through exercising it as a fact, it will produce a huge tree that will supply me with the fruit thereof, that will feed my mind with its carnal nutrition. Death! Our heart and mind will trust the words that seem more realistic to our situation in life. If the heart is trusting in the negative outcome; then that is what that person will receive no matter what God has said should be. God limits Himself to His Word which can do anything (nothing is impossible with God); but that Majestic Word cannot violate its principle that it must be believed on without doubting in order for it to manifest. This is why God says without faith it is impossible to please Him: because you must believe that He is who He says He is, and that He will do what He said He would do in His Word!
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
This particular passage of Scripture can seemingly give way to those who like to point out that the Bible cannot truly be trusted. They conclude, if God can be trusted then why don't He do what He said based on this passage we just read? Well, my friends, God said in His Word, "How can two walk together accept they agree?" The answer is they can't! God honors His Word when that Word abides in you and you abide in it, then you can ask anything and it shall be done unto you (John 15:7). The Bible tells us that anything done without faith is sin (Romans 14:23). Therefore, it is ridiculous to believe or even get angry with God because His Word did not work in your life, when you didn't believe it to start with. God is not on the hook here; He honors His Word that is sown in the heart of a person who esteems that Word above everything. That person will not be disappointed, they shall surely receive the thing they are asking. Someone with a humanistic view of life and even Christians will say in their heart that sickness or some form of destruction is something that everyone has to accept in this life. Wrong! Look at what God's Word says.
Psalms 107:20 (KJV)
20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Who is the Word? Jesus, of course! The problem is that most people and many Christians alike have a very humanistic view of how life works and therefore, they concede to its physical and fragile limitations. Yet, they never consider that we are talking about the Creator who can do anything. With Him it says all things are possible! Even when people are bound, it does not mean that God's Word is.
2 Timothy 2:9 (KJV)
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
If God's Word is believed on and all doubt is removed from that person's heart. They will witness the miraculous manifestation of God's performing Word within their life. People nullify the Word from working in their life by simply disregarding it as important enough to allow it to lead their way in it. They choose to live by their own terms and refuse to be obedient to God's Word. This is why the Word falls short in so many lives. They just don't believe it beyond intellectual knowledge. In other words, it is filed in the area of the brain that uses it for discussions and such, but not for living their life from. We are born again into a divine nature due to the work of Christ in us when we receive Him as our Lord and Savior. If God calls forth things that are not as though they were; then we as His children should do the same. We are like Him!
Hebrews 11:3 (KJV)
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Romans 4:17 (KJV)
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Romans 4:20-21 (KJV) 20 He [Abraham] staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Our God is a Creator who speaks things into existence without limitations. Whereas, we being His children ought to do the very same thing. We should speak the Word of the Lord that we have received no matter how long we have to wait for its manifestation. These are the ones that will have what they ask for. The humanistic views will never except the things that I have been sharing in this devotional, which is echoes what God said in His Word, that the the carnal mind is enmity with God and cannot subject itself to His Words (Romans 8:7). No matter what the majority of the people negatively spout out of their mouths, we can do the works of God if we believe we can through faith in Christ.
John 14:12-14 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
While I was preaching and teaching these very words to this Spanish congregation, a wind blew across the front of my body from my right to the left and hit my interpreter (Pastor Antonio Bosch); and he was overcome nearly tumbling to the floor by the Spirit and could not speak, but could only weep for the moment. It was as if God was saying in a powerful demonstration that I am here to back my Words; will you believe them? Needless to say, God's people began to respond and began to fill the front of the church, and there we ministered in words of knowledge, corrections, and through words of wisdom. I prophesied things that I did not understand only to learn later the next day what a precise word we spoke in so many lives that morning. If we fail to eradicate this humanistic view of life from our minds then we will suffer the consequences, even though we may consider ourselves to be Christians. Why? It is because standing on God's Word becomes very difficult to hold onto with any conviction when we second guess it or trump it by considering the temporal issues that may be around us for the moment. There is a Word that can lift a person from tragedy to security; from sickness to health; from poverty to prosperity; from death unto life. These Words alone are of a different nature altogether than the humanistic viewpoints of this world. These Words are Spiritual and full of power to them who believe. They come from things that cannot be seen except through the window of God's Word. What are you believing?
