"Between a Rock and a Hard Place"
When your back is against the wall and you don't know which way to turn. Or when things have mounted up against you so much that there seems to be no way out of your predicament. It's here that we discover one of God's greatest goals in life which is that we learn to put all our trust in Him. And that is a process. That is what we learn to do over time. This is because it doesn't take very long in life for you and me to learn how to distrust God due to our own self-preservations. It is because of difficulties which are heavily stacked against us that determine what we will put our trust in. Sadly, most of us place more trust in what we can manage or work out. Let me ask you this question. How do you respond to your challenges? Do you respond with fear? Now please listen before we go any further, I am in no way implying that God creates disasters in order that we may learn to trust Him. But He definitely takes our disadvantages, self-inflictions and affords us the opportunities to learn what we continue to place our trust in, so we can learn to place it in the right person. The person obviously that I am referring to is of course Jesus and not you or me. God throughout the Scriptures appears to author great victories when we find ourselves between a rock and hard place in life if we are willing to place our trust in Him. Remember, God's greatest desire is that you and I give total and complete control of our lives to Him. When I find myself facing such difficulties of life that seemingly appear to have no possible way out. Instead of trying to figure it out with my own logic and reason I have learned to go to the Bible and I look for those individuals that went through impossible situations and read how they came through it. I studied the principles that guided their life. What did God say to them, or what mistakes did they make that resulted in their failure. And one of those characters within the Bible that I so often turn to is a man named Gideon. So today what I would like to do is take this particular instant in Gideon's life and give you some Biblical truths that will guide you to victory when you seemingly stand between that rock and a hard place in life. If our subject today relates to a place that you may have found yourself struggling. Then I would encourage you to read the entire devotional by clicking the read more tab below and find out how to overcome that place called, "Between a Rock and a Hard Place." So if you will take out your Bibles and turn with me to the book of Judges we will look at an event in Gideon's life that is sure to give us encouragement when we are faced with our own impossible situations.

"Beyond Your Comfort Zone"
Acts 2:46-47 (NLT) 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity- 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
When was the last time you opened up your home to your neighbors, a co-worker, or someone that maybe you don't even know very well? I have always loved meeting new people and taking the time to get to know them. In the last year we have moved to a new home in a wonderful neighborhood. One of the things that we found right away was a neighbor who immediately reached out to us with his kindness. This man is not a professed Christian, but is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I know God has a purpose for us being here and it reaches far beyond us enjoying our home.
In the last few months we have met several of the other neighbors, all of whom I have felt drawn to. We have already begun sharing meals together, recipes, gardening tips and just casual conversations. I believe we have to begin by building relationships and the time will come for us to minister to their spiritual needs. Spiritual ministry may come eventually through a crisis that they may be going through; and they will feel safe to share their burden with someone that they know is a Christian and who has reached out to them with love. Our lives are a reflection of the love of God whether we have had a great day or a day that we wish would just end. His love shines through us to those that are all around us. Take some time this week and look around you, there are people waiting for you to step out of your comfort zone. Just think what could happen if we became an Acts church! "And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved." | |

Question: Could I possibly get a devil when asking for the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues?
Answer: There are those who say that we are not speaking in tongues, but are speaking in demonic gibberish. They believe this experience passed away when the Bible was completed. Man's opinion that tongues are of the devil has no scriptural basis whatsoever. There is, however, a scriptural answer for this objection. There are many that want this experience but are afraid that they may get a demon or maybe the devil will take advantage of them. However, Jesus expels the grounds for fear concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Look what it says in:
Luke 11:9-13 (KJV) 9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Many believe that this discourse was on prayer. But prayer was not the only subject Jesus was talking about in this excerpt from the gospel of Luke. In this passage of Scripture Jesus personally guarantees that you cannot ask for the Holy Spirit and receive a demon. Either it simply cannot happen or Jesus lied. And I doubt that Christ could ever tell a lie, for He is God! I would encourage you to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Bible teaches us that He is the comforter and our helper. Had it not been for that infilling of God's Holy Spirit within me I would have never experienced the Christian walk at the level I am now realizing today.
