Science Based Treatments

In my lecturing travels, Health Talk Radio and in working and managing a spa, the one thing I do know is that spa owners and therapists alike are more street savvy in finding the "dazzle me" treatments. Now more than ever a treatment needs to deliver results, make our clients happy, and most of all have studies or science that substantiates the service, giving it credibility.

Where we invest our money as a business owner and a client is a much thought out process due to the market trends and our spending limits. I have often iterated that you can only charge so much for an infrared service in a wooden box sauna as compared to an infrared treatment such as our relaxing, de-stressing Sudatonic™ treatment. With infrared being utilized by our NASA science teams, it is no wonder it is making leaps and bounds into the beauty and wellness industry. The spa industry now has evolved into a mindset that if you look good, it's darn important to feel good and be healthy as well!

Here is a little taste of what others in the medical field are saying about the infrared technology of today: Dr AJ Adams of the International Institute of Holistic Healing states "Gravity places a burden on the body; therefore, lying down is the most effective and comfortable way to take a sauna. . . . Keeping the head outside and cool while lying down is the optimal way to get the most benefits with the least discomfort".

The famous cardiologist and anti-aging guru Dr.Oz recently appeared on Oprah stating that "infrared helps support health and longevity". Doctors and health experts tout infrared for weight loss, pain relief, relaxation, chronic fatigue syndrome, detoxification and so many other health benefits. Dr. Oz also stated that "infrared saunas increase blood circulation and that one session can burn up to 700 calories." He also seemed ecstatic on the detoxification these invisible wavelengths of light delve out of the body, not to mention the cardiovascular benefits for anyone, including those that may be disabled or simply could not exercise.

According to The Journal of the American Medical Association, "in a single sauna session you may burn as many calories as you would rowing or jogging for 30 minutes". In the medical periodical "Clinical Rheumatology" a study has been conducted on Rheumatoid arthritis with positive benefits and no negative side effects. One study found that the sweat induced by conventional steam and dry heat saunas was 95 to 97 percent water. In infra-red saunas, only 80 to 85 percent of the sweat is composed of water; the remaining 15 to 20 percent consists of cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia and uric acid.

A book entitled" Detoxify or Die" Sherry Rogers, M.D. iterates the benefits of the far-infrared sauna. She also cites a study done by specialists at the Mayo Clinic which proves the effectiveness of therapeutic infrared sauna use for patients of end-stage congestive heart failure. The individuals in this three-week study tolerated the infrared sauna heat without side effects, and experienced significant chemical detoxification. The toxic load was the underlying cause of their condition and the heart function of each of these patients improved as a result of the therapeutic cleansing. They were also able to eliminate some of their medications. How about them apples!!!
